TS2012 Routes Are NoT TS2012 Ready

Why do route authors list their routes as TS2012 ready when they are not. I almost downloaded one but the Content Manager said it did not exist, yet it showed on the "black screen" stuff. So I went to download page. Fortunately it gives you the ability to examine each asset. Well, I found that quite a lot of them dated back to 2002 and 2004. Is that stuff TS2012 ready? I am sure some will say that if it appears at all it is compatible and the ready for TS2012 therefore the claim is valid.

If the route is listed as ok for TS2012 then that is probably ok since it will load, run and look terrible-correct?

" ... that is probably ok since it will load, ... "

Most likely, yes.

" ... run ... "

Possibly, but it depends whether all the earlier content will run error free in TS12.

Not all up-loaders check to see if assets are error free in TS12. If is not error free in TS12 those assets will not show in the route.

"... and look terrible-correct?"

That ain't necessarily so. There were some extremely talented content makers around even prior to TRS2004 and their material stands up well even by today's standard. Plus others remained with TRS2004 well into TS10 days.

This locomotive, for example, was made by VMD in the early days of TRS2004 and is still extremely good:

My major irritant are missing assets that are not built-in or on the DLS. Is it really asking too much for up-loaders to provide a link to the site to get them?

Then there are those who have use dependencies they have fixed and forgot about or don't appreciate that others may well not have fixed them or be able to.

I haven't updated most of my content from days of yore, because I feel content made for an earlier version should remain so, if there is scant use for it in the new versions. Trainz has dragged me into the future and I fully expect someday to be visited by the ghosts of Trainz past, present and future!

BTW Dick, TS12 is Trainz, TS2012 is Railworks 3.

Sorry, the CEO Esq OBE of RW3 confused me. He seems to do that a lot these days.

I should have added the usual caveats that not all elderly assets show poorly in TS12. And even those that do not do well within close viewing distances are quite good in backgrounds. If I had to ask for a "law" it would be that any route claimed to be ok for TS12 at least not use old trees. The Replace function is an excellent tool to clean up older blurred tracks and trackside textures.

I really do not drive trains, I just ride on them. Or I will observe a large yard from the "sidelines" as train assets are maneuvered thru their ballet. A giant model railroad. This unfortunately means that more visual assets are in view in my meanderings. However, what I see should parallel reality and Trainz does come close.
