TS2010EE Installation Frozen

I just received 2010 Engineer's Edition today, problematic from the moment it was delivered.

The computer had gone through the entire installation process until it reached "Finishing installation", then it permanently hung, would not close, and hid itself from the Task Manager.

When I had cleared off the dead install wizard, the launcher would appear normally, but when I click on "Routes", it crashes to a black screen with the spinning cursor.

That was it. I uninstalled Trainz 2010. I want to know, did I have to "run as administrator" (this is Windows 7) or disable the antivirus software before installing? What can I do to prevent this from happening next time? Is "TOPICS Entertainment" fully legitimate? Do I need the Service Packs to potentially prevent another crash?

I have a Dell Inspiron with an Intel Core 2 Quad, Windows 7 Home Premium, 478 GB of remaining free space, other than that it fits the bill, passed the compatibility test.

"did I have to run as administrator?" YES and install with admin privelages too.

"or disable antivirus?" YES again and after installation allow TS2010.exe and CMP.exe as exceptions in your firewall.

I would advise a complete uninstall and registry clean now before you try to reinstall. Also be warned the updates take a long time i.e. hours to install, so when doing updates DO NOT interupt or you will have to start all over again with another new install.

Thank you. I'll try reinstalling tomorrow as I don't have enough time today. I don't think admin permission is much of a problem as every program asks for administrator permissions before running. In the meantime, I feel like such a fool because I didn't check if running in DirectX rather than OpenGL was the problem before I uninstalled.

Also bear in mind that at the end of the installation it rebuilds the asset database, which can take upwards of 20 minutes, it will appear to be frozen during this time.

Just let it sit and do something else for a while :)

I had to sit through this more than three times on my first install, for some odd reason it just encountered some kind of get-up-and-go feeling on the fourth or fifth try. It didn't cause the crash, but I'll keep that in mind.
