TS2010 SP3

I've been having problems installing this service pack and was wondering if there is a way that one can back out an attempt to apply a service pack? In other words is there a way of backing up TS2010 (SP2) before applying a new service pack? If there is, what steps do you need to take?

Copy your TS2010 install to another location before you do the install. If the patch goes tits up, copy the old one back.

Patches generally go in fine. Just remember that once you start the patching process, that you need to leave it alone while it does its thing. It usually gets part way, and looks like it is hung. It is NOT hung up; it's busy doing its thing. When I patch Trainz, I start the patch before I go to sleep so it has the whole night to run without me poking at it.

The next day I run an Extended Database repair, and fix and broken content it reports.

Well, I'd wish they'd warn you about the length of time it takes and not to get frustrated when the update seems to stall out about half way through.

or have a little something on screen saying "Chill buddy, we're still doing things"... :hehe:

SP3

I had issues with SP3, not with the original installation of the game. The game ran great for my son ;) until I loaded the SP3 pack, and what about SP1 and SP2? Should I have not been able to load those first, I couldn't load them at all, the window said they were unavailable. Were they included in SP3??? :o I did run the Repair and it just got worse.
Anyway, I am currently reinstalling the entire game, I believe the option to uninstall SP3 should have been given to us because installing it messed up everything he used. TS2006, the service patch came with its own folder however, I couldn't even find the SP3 patch for TS2010 on his hard drive other than the original download. In essence, the game is TS2010; it has had 3 patches already; I was hoping it would be better than TS2006, but I was disappointed. I am spending so much time on troubleshooting and I don't even play the game.
I wish the install instructions and a manual would come with the game. The online manual is tough to access when you are actually in the game. What can I say?; my son loves the game but I don't. :'(

Uninstall Problem

After a reinstall (update to Build 44088 with add-ons Settle-Carlisle, Murchison2 and Duchess) the uninstall feature does not work ("unins000.dat file is corrupted"). This happens even before any activation of or change to the program(s). With luck, I won't need to uninstall. But if I do???

Hi Peter,

It's no problem. Just delete the Auran folder. You'll get a warning about the registry, but ignore it and delete the folder if you need to.

Run a registry cleaner afterwards like Advanced System Care, or Cc-Cleaner to clean up the mess.

One service pack a day...

After reading this thread I got a feeling that most people believe in installing service pack as a way to fix problems with Trainz. While this is true to some extent, each service pack will inevitably introduce new bugs, which will need to be patched again and again. So, even if you applied SP N today, you will still need to apply SP N+1 tomorrow. There is no end to this procedure. So, the real question you should ask yourself is - Do I really need it?
