Hey, I've just got a new 2TB drive (at the C drive now), and my TS2010 content (and other content from older Trainz versions) is at the D drive now. Is there a way to backup my TS2010 Content and move/restore to the C drive (once after TS2010 is reinstalled on C)?

Yes. FYI, you can run that copy of TS2010 in-place from your D: if you want to, and spare yourself the hassle of copying everything over. But, assuming you want to reinstall so everything's all proper, you can:

1. Copy the old installation over top of the new one on your C: drive. (I suggest only patching the new installation to the same level as your old copy; you can patch further after you copy everything over.)

2. Copy just the userdata folder from your old installation over your new one (probably the least desirable of all choices.)

3. Use CMP's Import Content feature to import the contents of the old Userdata folder.

4. Run the old installation's CMP, export all desired content to one or more CDP files, then reimport it via the new installation's CMP.

You may get varying opinions as to which method is truly best but #1 works for me and happens to be the fastest, along with method #2, will retain any keyboard map changes and screenshots.

So I should just uninstall TS2010 in D and install it in the C drive and copy the 'userdata' folder to the new one?

If you want to be "proper" and reinstall Trainz into C:, use #1. Otherwise, I'd just copy the entire installation and NOT reinstall Trainz via the original discs or download.

Doing a proper reinstallation has one advantage and one alone - it restores all the registry entries and correctly associates content; for example, it sets up CMP to open downloaded CMP files, and it installs a handler in Firefox, etc. to handle trainz:// URLs. Some of the patches also add some stuff to the Windows registry, but the point is, none of it is stuff Trainz needs to run, and it isn't too difficult to manually setup CDP and Trainz handlers to point to the correct places. It's just some people prefer to do a reinstallation and time-consuming repatch because they don't want bother possibly screwing up or dealing with technical junk, which is totally understandable.

If you do end up just copying rather than doing a formal reinstallation, copy the entire Auran folder and everything underneath it into the C:\Program Files (x86) (or just C:\Program Files for 32-bit versions of Windows). Since there won't already be an Auran folder present (assuming you haven't installed any other Auran products) then it should copy without asking you to overwrite anything. Then set the file associations for CDP in My Computer.

No matter which method you choose, do everything while running as administrator, if you are on Vista or Windows 7.

so, if i move the Auran folder to the C drive without re-installation, do i have to Edit the registry entries?
