TS2009 on Vista better than XP?

Hi;
I'm running TS2009 (sp1+patch) on a system running the 32 bit version of Win XP Pro.
This system has the following specs:

Asus P5AD2-E Premium mobo (Intel 925 chipset)
3.4Ghz Intel (single core) hyper-threading processor
3Gigs DDR memory (at 533 Mhz)
BFG/Nvidia GeForce 6800 w 256MB (upgrading to 9800 w 512MB very soon)
Monitor: Viewsonic VX2000, 20" LCD on DVI port
(Card supports dual monitor, but I don't use the 2nd monitor with TS)

Would TS2009 possibly run faster on Vista (32 bit) than on XP pro?
I wasn't planning to upgrade to Vista, but maybe if it would help TS I would.

Thanks

No.

The technical reason is that Vista does a lot more error checking whenever it takes control so expect frame rates to be about 10% slower.

Thanks for that info. I never upgraded from XP to Vista because it seems that all of the Vista enhancements were for multimedia, and the extent of my multimedia use of my pc is playing iTunes and watching DVD's and shows I dl off of my Replay TV.

Wouldn't it be nice if someone (are you listening Bill Gates?) would come up with an OS dedicated to the gamer. There are so many of us who would probably be willing to buy this OS if it would mean faster/better game play.
Of course, we used to have a great gaming OS.... DOS!

can't answer the TRS2009 question, but I found on my Samsung netbook that both TRS2006 and Trainz Classics 1 both ran better under Windows 7 Beta than XP - but then in my case (and I can't explain how), Windows 7 thought I had 256Mb graphics and XP only thought 128Mb graphics.

Not tried Vista on Trainz - and would never try Vista as it is - in my opinion - a big steaming (no pun intended) of cack.

What you need for a lot better performance is a Duel Core CPU, DDR2 ram, and a better video card.
The dual core is not an option at this point, I do have 3Gigs of DDR2, and I am getting a new video card. That's the best I can do. I will have to be satisifed with it for a while, as I cannot afford to buy any more hardware.

I have a dual core CPU, and 4GB of 3200 RAM, and an ATI X1800 video card with 256 MB RAM.

Like most of us FW, the economic climate does not really allow me to upgrade my video card. That is the first I will upgrade, when I can justify the expense. I am also running XP Pro 64-bit windows. That runs fast with TS2009.

Am I correct in assuming the video card is the most likely to upgrade?

vista runs trainz fine over here, in my opinion, it runs it better. but then again, i like vista, so what do i know =)

Saves me the job, this person is so ignorant he is unable to contribute anything to this forum and resorts to foul mouthed remarks! John.

I was going to say the same thing. ;)

Updating your video card FW will make a big difference. I'm not sure what you can get for AGP slots these days as everything seems to be heading for the PCIe bus.

Running vista in 64bit flavour here

No problems

Must say though, the beat 7 windose beats vista ;)

Can't wait for windose 7 to be released, things open faster and darn close faster and once ati/nvidia sort any beta driver glitches out (besides no opengl on ati x64 side of things i don't know if there's any major glitches to sort

Also everything that worked in vista worked in w7 beta

If i were you i would maybe stick with xp pro and get w7 when it's out ;)

(i do love vista and with sp2 beta in it's real nice) it's an OS that needs plenty of reg tweaks (no not a prog that messes around to tweak it, i mean tweaks where you get in the guts of it manually til it flies along

Anyways you could always backup stuff you wanna save in xp and give the beta7 a try ;)

Cheers

Tony
