TS2009 Deleting Bug

Glenethson

Some Might Say
Hi, sometimes when I try to delete a section of track, usually a crossover or junction Trainz will crash. Then after I start again and try to delete that section again Trainz will crash again and again. This is very annoying when I just have to leave a section of track alone.

Any Theories?

Cheers,
Glen

If you have applied scripting to the junction such as signals that govern that junction or other items which somehow reference the one you are deleting, then this behaviour will occur. Ensure you have removed all references to the junction first.

If you have not applied any references or scritps that you are aware of, is the junction a "fixed" asset that was installed such as the jjs junction kit or something similar. These type of assets have to be "wired" and that has to be removed first.

Just a place to start looking. Hope it helps

Nope, It did'nt work. I removed the speed signs and point motors then tried to delete the track only for the game to crash again.

Now I have a new problem. The game crashes when I try to delete point motor from sections of track that cause crashes.

What build are you using. Some further research into your problem has revealed some threads where builds prior to SP1 (38599 and possibly 38411 (can not verify since I don't own that one)) have this problem. SP1 is touted as having resolved that issue. Please check the build and advice so the community can assist further!

I had a similar problem with a junction which refused to be moved without crashing Trainz (2009 SP1 38599) which was resolved by repairing the database in CMP, worth a try? seems to fix all manner of problems.

Is there any invisible track attached to it? Have you tried to move it to another part of the map, then save it, close then reopen, look in map mode and see if it shows a blue line from where you moved it to where you put it as TR2009 will show all invisible rails in map mode. Also try doing a (save as) and see if it will delete from there, I've known in the past that if you've had a train crash on a certain piece of track the game thinks that there is still a train on it, like for a better word a ghost train or something, but that was in the early beta builds. What build are you on by the way? It should be 38599, or slightly higher it it’s retail version.

Hope this helps.

I'm using TS2009 SP1. As regards to rebuilding the database after a crash, it tells me to after a crash but it still continues to crash after repairing it and "fixing modified assets".

Also I've never run a train over the crossover so that can't be the "ghost effect".

Is this happening only on one set of points, or to all of them. You could "install" another set of points somewhere else in the line. Then try to remove it and see if it crashes. Another extreme solution is to "copy" the map and experiment with the copy. Try to delete using the delete tool of objects, splines, etc.

Hi Glenethson,
This one's got me beat. The only other thing I can think of are crossing rules, have you any crossing rule setup, if so have you deleted them?

Edit:: Try changing the points and rails to difrent types and see what that dose (but try it out on a copy)

Thanks for your effort and I never had a crossing rule. As I type this It has happened about 12 times all on different sets of points and track on 3 different routes.

The offending set of points:

In your screen shot you have the red warning symbol in the bottom right corner of the screen, click on it and see what the message says, I'm betting it's related?

Not exactly helpful those messages unless you coded the software, I guessing here it's caused by a faulty asset, as that seems to be what causes similar messages here on the couple of occasions it's happened, one was a loco I had added that never actually appeared in surveyor however it was listed in find object, I just went to it or rather the empty space it was supposedly occupying and deleted it . The other was a faulty building that I removed and the problem went away. So I guess the question is, if its even related to the same problem, is what was added immediately before the problem occurred if you can remember? difficult one that!

I assume that you can delete ok on say a blank board with just track on it?

Add spline ponts

I believe I have had this problem on occasion. I rebooted the program then inserted spline points on either side of the offending spine point. I was then able to remove the two track sections on either side of the offending spline point without the program crashing. The final step is to added new track.

I'll give that a go now

UPDATE:
It worked, I deleted the speed signs, trackmarks and signals, added about 5 spline points and then deleted each peice of track on an offending piece of track and it worked. Still the only problem is knowing which piece of track will cause trainz to crash.
