TS2009 5m grid

Hi;
I was pleased to discover the 5m grid option in TS2009. It allows for more precise creation of various terrain details such as cuts and fills for track that look a bit more prototypical than the old 10m grid.
But there is one glaring fault here. When placing tunnel portals and other "snap-to-grid" assets, the 5m grid is useless. These assets will not snap to the 5m grid; only to the 10m.

It is a shame, because tunnel portals have always been a problem. It is extremely difficult to get them positioned just right. In some cases, I have used the AJS tunnel kit, but this is a tedious process that involves many more steps than using the standard tunnels.

I realize that there are limitations to some features of the game, but with the "huge" upgrade from TS2006 to TS2009, I might have expected more significant improvements.
Being able to snap tunnel portals and such to the 5m grid would have been much more useful to me than being able to set draw distances up to 5Km, which puts such a drain on my 4-1/2 yr old system that I cannot use anything higher than 3Km.

Hi,

I fully agree with you, and along the same line, having the option to cut out only a 5m hole instead of the big awful 10 meter hole (dighole) would almost be an essential part of a 5m grid system in my book. :)

But, in Trainz2009 I only can cut 10 meter holes, snap to 10 meter grid and except for the part where I can now work the scenery part at a 5m grid base, it is nearly useless for snapping stuff, digging out holes, smooth the track with the tool in Surveyor...

But, I love 5 meter grid, best thing in Trainz for years from my point of view. :)

Best wishes all

I'm willing to bet that technically with the 5m grid it should be possible to get things to snap to it and have a smaller dighole? All hinges on if these functions are controlled by a script somewhere which could be edited? or it's written into the engines coding in which case it's plead with Auran.

10m holes for a narrow gauge tunnel is excessive and a nightmare when it's on a narrow ledge trying to get it to look right!:o

The one thing I do enjoy with the 5m grid is painting textures. Much smoother, and better looking.
I guess someone with coding experience could go through some of the script files, but I kind of doubt that something as basic as the grid would be coded into the program itself, not scripted.
