ts12d.ja installation error

Hi everyone,

I just purchased and downloaded the setup files for Trainz 2012. During the installation I receved an error that file ts12d.ja was corrupted. I clicked retry but got the same error. I cancelled the installation and tried it again but got the same error. I am currently in the process of redownloading everything again and will give it a try after that, but was wondering if there are other possibilities as to what might be causing this error? Researching it really didn't bring much up.

Save yourself some time, just download the part that has the 12D.ja file (try 2a.bin). It happens ALOT that one portion or another gets corrupted during download. I've even had a .ja file/ .bin file get corrupted just transferring onto an external storage device for safe-keeping. If not for what I've already paid, I'd get the DVD version ( If I have to do it again, I will; ie TS2013/2014).

Corrupt downloads do happen if using a browser and not a download manager.
You might get a corrupt file message if you are running Win7 HP and didn't run the Installer as administrator, as in right click run as administrator.

As a new user you might want to have a look at Shane's tutorial site, covers virtually everything that could go wrong and how to sort it. http://trainz.shaneturner.co.uk/tutorials/ Includes links to patches, if needed, may not be on a digital download, a bit easier than trawling through the announcements forum.

Thanks so much for the quick replies! After I posted this I researched it some more and found the post with the exact file sizes. Sure enough, the 2a.bin file wasn't correct. It would be nice if they put a little disclaimer on the download site about checking file sizes, etc. I won't get a change to try to install it again until later tonight but it sounds like this is the problem.

So another question, you said corruption can occur if you don't use a download manager, but the download site specifically says (and in a scary red box I might add...) "Please Note: We advise against the use of download managers to download your product files." So what's up with that?

Ooops! The new Simulator Central, had forgotten about that, the old shop recommended using Free Download Manager, the new one for some reason which I can't remember doesn't like download managers, post by Zec the customer service guy explaining about it on here somewhere.

There is also a list of the md5 checksums on here but think that was for the downloads from the old shop.

Coincidentally, N3V have failed to update their knowledgebase on that - they still suggest using a download manager even for Simulator Central downloads on there.

Again thanks everyone. After I re-downloaded everything and verified the sizes to make sure they were correct the installation worked fine. Now you all can get ready for the jillion questions I'm going to be having...

Something I will advise you do as soon as possible is to register your serial number (Planet Auran > Serial Number)

I assume you mean from the main menu? I tried last night, but when I entered my serial number the site kinda glitched out, I'll give it another try tonight.

So a few more random questions...
1. What is the relationship between Auran and N3V games? N3V actually wrote the software didn't they? There's the trainzportal.com site, the auran.com site... You kinda got to learn your way around.
2. I found out how to change my avatar but how do you change the little message under your name? Also how do you add your products to the little train track next to your name? Also is it possible to upload your own avatar? If I'm going to get involved I'm going all in!

This software is so cool. After I got it installed I gave it a spin without a seperate graphics card in my PC. I figured it would be very rough and yep, it was. Plopped in a new graphics card last night and fired it up and it runs great!

I live between Phoenix and Tucson and a main UP line runs through the area (actually a train is going by as I type this). Over the last five years they've been double tracking the line and I have enjoyed watching it happen. When I was a kid me and my friends would play around the tracks. There was a siding and sometimes the engineer or cabooseman would invite us aboard to check it out. This game is the closest I will ever get to running a train and I am looking forward to it!

As for the N3V Games/Auran thing, N3V Games bought out Auran a few years ago as Auran at the time went bankrupt (from memory it was 2007 or 2008)
