TS12 won't start

What would cause TS12 not to start ? I shut it down last night and today it refuses to open on my desk top computer. (I am on my lap top in TS2010 now). I have tried launching from the icon on the task bar and opening from the programs menu, nothing. Anyone have any ideas ?

Thanks.

Hi Connel,

Did the program shutdown 'gracefully'?

Did you wait at least 5 minutes before shutting off your computer?

The reason I ask is the database may have become corrupt.

You can repair this easily though from a command prompt.

1) Open a Command Prompt with Administrator rights.

- Go to the Start Menu
- Choose Accessories
- Right click on the command prompt icon.
- Choose Run as Administrator
- Click OK at the prompt

2) Navigate to where you installed Trainz TS12.
- Type in the path like this:

cd "c:\program files (x86)/N3V/TS12/bin" - or wherever you installed it to.

- Press ENTER after the line is typed.

If you made a mistake, press the up-arrow to bring back the last command and edit it.

You need the quotes because it's on the command prompt and has a space in the name.

3) In the 'bin' directory, type the following:

trainzutil repairdatabase

The QDR will run in the command prompt and TADDAEMON will startup along with TrainzUtil. Let this process finish as it can take some time and the only indication anything is working is when your hard drive light blinks.

If this is a bit complicated, Shane Turner may have a better explanation on his tutorial website.

It started up by itself all of a sudden a pop up box stated that I had entered a wrong serial number. I had to reenter my key code and then it started to do an database update, however, this update looks to be operating differently than the other updates I have seen.

Okay. That's a bit different and a bit easier. :)

You must have done the auto-patch up to the latest version. Let this complete and it will take a very, very long time so be warned.

John

The update reads: "Updating Trainz Asset Database..." then reads "checking for faulty assets" (------/25401) That looks different than the usual updates that usually read: blah, blah, blah (-------/265000). Just seems like this is a smaller update.

I would recommend it if you've patched up to SP1. The hotfixes "fix" quite a few issues introduced by the service pack.

The update stopped or finished or something, cause my computer went to sleep. When I woke it up I was at the opening screen. It still shows build 49922. What is up now?

Yes it does. I do NOT want to patch/update my version. I have NO IDEA why it wanted to update automatically all of a sudden.

Not quite sure what happened this morning, but now my Content Search Filter in Surveyor has been cleared out. Also had to re-select my favorite routes from the main menu, also. Weird stuff. Game still seems to operate ok.

Everything seems to be working fine. Is reinstalling a pain in the A$$ ?? How do I save everything that I have done already?

It can be a problem if you haven't done it before. In terms of backing things up, copy the <trainz install folder>/UserData folder to a safe location first.

Shane

Anywhere but the folder it's currently in is a good place, as the uninstaller process is likely to remove everything in the Trainz installation folder.
