TS12 SP1 Thumbnail question?

epa

Angry Trainz Nerd
I have not updated my TS12 to SP1 yet. I wanted to, but after hearing about the issues regarding thumbnails (no thumbnail = faulty), I changed my mind. Does N3V ever plan to fix this, am I going to have to stay up all night to give stuff thumbnails, or am I just gonna have to stick without it?

Cheers,
Matt

There's nothing N3V need to fix on this. The actual requirement is that all image files reference in the config.txt file must exist, although the thumbnail requirement has been around for a while (since trainz-build 3 (TS2009/TS2010).

The easy way is copy any assets thumbnail or screenshot. Use either when an asset shows faulty for lack of one.

It's 240 x 180, although having a look at an asset with a thumbnail may give you the correct information for the config.txt file.

Ah, but there is a drawback to that procedure. It may be simple for a creator to execute (and I've done it myself), but if a person is scrolling through the DLS for items uses the 'show icons' display, then all they will see is 'generic screenshot' and not something descriptive of that the item actually is. I agree that it has been going on for quite a while as witnessed by looking for something like road signs. All you see for a thumbnail/screenshot is a bunch of road signs with no idea as to which one is the actual content.

On your own system, to correct the missing screenshot, then go right ahead and dump a generic screenshot into the folder and commit the item back. For newly created items, please don't do that.

there are programs that will allow you to copy and paste to multiple folders, and most decent text editors will allow a mass edit of text files to place the correct containers and info. it isnt a simple one click process to correct all the assets, so it will take some effort.

If you just add a Thumbnails container, without the "0" sub-container, it will not count as a problem. I did that to a couple hundred items, just delete sub-container "0". Going in and adding the path takes too long. Found this out by trial and error.
