ts12 download cannot install

Just finished downloading the 6 files for ts12, I assume the first file to install is setup (557kbs) On finish downloading it stated that the file has a unknown publisher. It is asking for a program to start with. The other files are .bin files but none of them have any icons just a white box with top right corner missing (if you know what I mean!) I downloaded the setup file again with the same result. Before downloading any of the files again as there is a limit to the downloads you can have. I would appreciate any advice before doing anything else Thanks. apologies if I don't reply to anyone as I have just been called into work will be a few hours to return back on the forum.

Hi Selector,

Yes, this is a normal message from Windows now and usually affects the smaller developers. So it is okay to run the executable. We highly recommend installing and running Trainz as Administrator and outside of the C:\Program Files (X86) directory structure. Use something such as C:\N3V\TS12, or even another hard drive if you have one.

To install as administrator, right click on the exe file and choose Run as administrator from the list.

Also, check that the setup file has a .exe extension. Ignore the security warning in this case as it is safe to run that file.

Hi Shane, the setup file has no exe extention and is only 556Kbs in size don't know if that's right. Did try and download again but just got the same result Thanks

Is your windows showing any extensions?
It is common for windows to hide "known extensions" like .exe, .doc, .xls, etc.

Just right-click it and see if you can select "run as administrator", assuming you are on Windows 7 or higher.

I looked what you suggested and no I cannot select "run as administrator" I have windows 7. The other files have .bin extension none on the setup

If you have the "hide known extensions" ticked in Control Panel->Folder Options then the exe will not be shown. But if Windows recognises it as an executable then the small icon to the left will show a little computer with a CD/DVD in front. Right click on Setup and "Run as Administrator" should be the second menu choice. If it isn't then your Windows user id may not have sufficient privileges.

Note that Setup-1a through Setup-2b are all 1,529,297kb in size. Setup-3a is 672,141kb. I mention this because one of my copies of 2b got corrupted on the download and I had to abort my first attempt at installation.

During the final stages of installation you may get a popup asking if Taddaemon can have access to the internet. This is ok.

Thanks for the reply I am still at a loss, I have re-downloaded the setup file it's still the same. Is the setup file only 566Kbs?

Did you try double-clicking on the setup file? What happened?
Did you turn on extensions, like how pcas1986 told you?

Try adding .exe at the end, then try running the file.

When I double click on the setup file it's says to "choose a program to open this file with". Yes I checked the turn on extensions and is on.

A bit of advice - if you can, temporarily disable your antivirus software during installation of the game.

Shane, Installed Ts12, by putting the extension .exe on the end of the setup worked a treat. Thanks for your help also other members for there input much appreciated. Happy days, was going to spend all day tomorrow playing with it but called in to cover a shift, well will have to play with the real trains as I am a signaller with Network Rail.

Hope you don't mind me hijacking a bit of this thread but is there a reason to not install to the default location other than making it easier to get the Trainz install files and directories?

It depends on your pc configuration and preferences. I have a smallish SSD that I use for the O/S to make it boot faster and a large extra hard disk for applications. I prefer to keep applications such as Trainz and other games physically separate to the O/S drive. I also have an SSD just for Trainz but it doesn't run that much faster then on my 2TB hard disk.

Another reason too for keeping Trainz in another location is it makes it a lot easier to backup. The application is unique in such away that once installed, the whole installation can be backed up and restored without too much hassle, and even transferred to another PC easily.

AHH... I bet this thing screams with an SSD.. Just got a new laptop and found out AFTER I got it that my work would have paid for the SSD upgrade.. But running on a second drive does make sense... thanx for the answer guys.
