TS12 does not merge routes cleanly.

I was always under the impression that when a texture was painted over with another one, the old texture was 'erased' and the new one took its place. Trainz designers evidently forgot to include a "texture eraser". Another strike against the game creators. The texture eraser (to clear all textures down to a blank board) should be at least an option if one doesn't want to blend textures in layers anyway.

When one repaints a car, isn't it customary to strip away all the old paint (and rust) away down to bare metal then prime and paint it?

Trainz is a sloppy design.

I wouldn't say it's an sloppy design. The reason for this is to allow blended textures. Without this capability, you couldn't have grass blending into dirt and would have distinct blocks of textures instead. It's a trade-off for good or bad.

Wasn't there an Erazor software for TRS04/06 that got rid of these "hidden" textures? Does it still work?

Yup. I can't remember who wrote it though.

It doesn't work anymore because the file format has changed for the routes since TS2009.

This proves newer isn't always better.
You would not have even noticed any of these problems if you hadn't been editing, and adding things, to other peoples routes, pushing the envelope of Trainz until it fails.

T:ANE is totally buggy, and is chock full of glitchs

TS12 is soon to be unsupported, and will have no future SP's

TS10 is abandoned, and is unsupported, and will have no future SP's

TS09 was a rushed out beta version on TS10, and is abandoned, and is unsupported, and will have no future SP's

TRS2006 was the most stable version, and worked flawlessly

Am I the only one who is seeing a downward spiral trend ?

The trouble is, not many young people into PC gaming are train buffs. Trains are pretty much for old farts as myself. This Trainz product has low market demand in the CORE regions of the world. Australia is 3rd world. That is why it was tossed together like a cheap salad. Low budget R and D. No American software firm would dare put out a new railroading program in this day and age. Microsoft ditched their train project back in 2004, I believe. Young gamers want soldiers, urban gang-banger scenes and alien space ships, not choo-choos.

Just what are the core regions of the world? Is Australia a Third World country? No and to call Australia that is an insult and only shows your ignorance. Trainz is screwed up because they've tried to turn a basic model railway simulator into a railway simulator making too many complications and glitches. I now prefer to use Train Simulator, no error fixing no hunting for dependencies and no crashes. Runs a whole lot better too. Oh yeah that was developed in the UK. Another Third World country.

Funny how so many things developed by this "Third World Country" have been taken up by your idea of a "First World Country".
Cheers,

Good morning all, i have read this particular thread with much interest, since 1970, i've played around with Radio Shack Ti99 computers @6hz or something, blazing slow speed, fooled around quick basic program for model rr i had built, to do car routing, and it worked beautifuly, unfortunately life got busier and i didn't play with computers again till 1986, this time a 386sx, 32 bit,DOS 2.0 nope actually 16bit, was told they weren't true 32bit. Software was buggy, but if you were geekish, you might be able to do some work arounds?

Fast forward to 21st century, Win10, Mac Yosemite, Ipad, Android Phone, great things but they have their problems, do they not?

I started out with Trainz on my IPAd, had used Steam Rail Sim 5yrs ago, it was ok, but i wanted something more, didn't know, but since i found Trainz, i realize it was Route building, then i found other folks routes that i could play with,,, learned merging, but found cleanups were needed depending on what pieces were merged, and like people meeting other people, sometimes it doesn't work, oil n vinegar. So as they say, carefully tread, be aware of the risks. Also realize software is not perfect, no two computers r the same.

I had so many problems with Trainz on Ipad,
Then bought a brand new HP laptop, bought Trainz12, thought i was in heaven, only to find out, my Hard Drive writes too slow, Video Card can't keep up with large layouts, 100 boards or more, i corrupted my Trainz12 program, lost a lot work i had done, failed to backup my user folder, yup geeks like me screw up too... 😂 LOLs.

Was ready to throw out both my Trainz software Programs and say forget, thought about it for 3-4 days, then tried to revive my Steam account, no luck here, decided ok im not going to let trainz beat me into failure, started reading thru this forum to gain answers, and a better understanding of the beast called Trainz, ruled by computers that lack all the right stuff.

Sorry so long winded, just safe to say, life is not perfect 👌 nor r the machines or games we play. By the way i had to reinst both IPad n Laptop trainz due to corrupted game files, what do they say, experience is the best teacher, and Trainz has taught me so much, i am a humble person, so i do realize it will take some years and falling down on occasion as i learn how to live with my new Trainz, yes im backing up now.

PS i not planning on buying TANE for at least another YR i have enough issues with Version 12 n Trainz 2 for IPAD!

I bid you all a good day.

BLEU
