TS12 constantly crashes when connecting maps

I do not know why TS12 constantly crashes when connecting maps? In TRS2009 Joining map was seamless and the new version can not do that. Is this some bug in the program that I'm doing something wrong? I would add that the maps are joined without gaps and without errors.

Known bug in program, awaiting fixing in the service pack that hopefully will appear at some point. Currently the only way to merge anything other than one board routes or blank boards is to use 2010 or older and import to TS12.

That's nonsense....works fine for me merging in TS12.

No it is NOT nonsense, don't assume because it works for you there is not a problem.
Doesn't work for many of us, need to read the thread with the tests that were done.

I suppose it could be content related, or a result of countless other variables. I have not tried a merge with 12 myself, although I have read many complaints about it here.

I think it mainly seems to be related to DEMs, I've had no problem merging single board routes together or adding a blank dem to a populated one, what doesn't work for me and numerous others is merging 2 populated ones. General consensus was a memory overflow or perhaps memory leak causing the problem. Can't be lack of memory as I have 8GB of the stuff. It has been reported and acknowledged that there is a problem ages ago now.

There is a TS12 route merge bug - no question. Posts of the "Works for me - you're an idiot" sort don't contribute a great deal to the discussion!

Small and/or simple routes merge in TS12 without issue, but the bigger and/or more complex the route gets the more likely it is to crash while merging.

I don't think that the issue is DEM related per-se, except in so much as DEM routes tend to be large. From previous threads on the subject the rescources of the local computer may also be an issue, two given routes may merge on mine but not on yours. Whatever is broken is I suspect it is hard to chase down, because the crash on your machine is not necessarily repeatable on mine. But I don't therefore doubt that your machine crashes!

Idle thought - do N3V keep a min-spec machine to try things out on? You'd imagine so....

The merge problem in TS12 is not just related to DEMs since I don't use them but still have the problem. I am generally trying to merge populated boards with the inevitable crashes. The only way I can get it to work is by breaking up the map being merged into the main map into separate small piece maps of 1 to say 8 boards in size. Merge each small piece and if it works, save the map, close then re-open and try to merge the next small piece. It takes a lot of time to complete the total merger.

I think the problem is memory related and must be something involving the change in processes coded into TS12 compared to how TS2010 handles it.

To Gawpo50, please do a search on this subject. N3V have confirmed that there is a bug because it affects many of us . That is enuff evidence to suggest there is a problem when the creator of the product acknowledges the existence of a bug. Regards.

I have several times merged in TS12 5,000+ board routes together with no problems. The built in N&W route is a merge of two 5,000+ board DEMS then trimmed as needed. That was done on a 32 bit Vista box with 4GB RAM. As you would all be aware, on a 32 bit system, windows only sees around 3.5GB of actual RAM and Trainz gets way less than that as usable memory. My current box is a Win7 64 bit with 8GB RAM, it has merged three 5,000+ board routes successfully. Total route size in CMP is 797MB so as far as I am concerned, it is an OS problem more than a Trainz problem.

Sorry if that confused you!

For the vast majority of folks there is an issue. N3V have aknowledged the issue. It is openly aknowledged that for some people some merges on some systems work. The issue under discussion is how to help the vast majority of users for whom it DOESN'T work. It MAY be OS-related, but I crash and burn on any merge other than very small routes in both 32 bit XP and 64 bit W7 Pro systems with double your RAM (dual boot machine) and there are plenty users suffering the same fate and the merge success of one user on one machine allows no conclusions whatever to be drawn.....

Gawpo50, this is getting tedious...N3V have acknowledged a bug and have stated a fix is on the way with the next service pack!....Finito, kaput. end of message. If yours is working, well hooray for you. the majority of us mere mortals are stuck with the bug. Get over it son. It's not all about you sir or madam...Again, regards.
