TS10 Route Imported to TS12 lost TransDem Textures (Image Warning)

I imported a CDP of my TS10 route created with TransDem into TS12. Most of the assets imported ok which was good but I have a strange problem. When I created the route in TransDem I used Open Street Map to show the position of roads, railways, water etc to make it easier to apply textures to the route and give good geographical references for the assets.

Now when I open the route in TS12 with the route zoomed out I can see the Open Street Map textures that TransDem created. When I start to zoom in however, they fade and then disappear. The four screenshots below each represents one notch on the mouse wheel zooming in.

Is there a way get these map images back or will I just have to use TS10 to edit the roads etc in?

Thanks
Paul

Stupid question, but have you extracted the Transdem texture cdp pack(s) via CMP into TS12? TS12 uses completely different directory on your HD so will not see anything in your TS2010 directory.

Its not a stupid question at all. I had assumed that the textures for the route would have saved with the CDP I created of the route in TS10, is this not the case then?

If you just saved the route and no dependencies then no, they wouldn't. In any event, you would need the full set of Transdem colours which you can only get by installing the cdp from the relevant folder in Ziegler Tools.

So if I'm understanding you correctly, I need to install TranDem on my new PC in TS12 and then copy the CDP with the colours into TS12 from the TransDem folder. I then need to try and find and copy the textures for the route to my TS12 installation. Nothing is easy is it! Thanks for the advice.

I think that I may be missing something here. TS12 undoubtedly has some improvements to TS10, the ability to zoom right out for example. The cost seems to outweigh the benefits though;

- Problems downloading any routes from the DLS and them working out of the box as it were, only one successfully downloaded of the three I've tried (All TS12).
- Problems importing content from TS10 without spending hours repairing or replacing assets.

I assume that the problems I am encountering are due to a lack of knowledge on my part, in fairness though I would question if a development that requires such a huge workload on the user is really a development (I'm not just talking about the issue mentioned above here). That there are few options for gamers wanting to construct their own routes does not absolve N3V of responsibility to make a piece of software user friendly. I acknowledge that if all you want to do is load the program and "play trains" it works fine, but Trainz has more depth and I do not understand why the process to create has to become so difficult. Whinge over.

To be honest with you though, it was said at the time that TS12 does not include a lot of the built-in content from previous versions.

You make a fair point Shane, on the bright side I guess I can just carry on with TS10 where the problems in 12 get too much. I really don't want to knock Trainz as there really is nothing comparable for creating your own stuff but I think the effort required to get TS12 to where my TS10 was is overwhelming. Regarding this particular issue I can just delete the route from TS12, finish laying roads etc in TS10 and then re-import so its not the end of the world, just slightly disappointing.

What does puzzle me is why a route that is listed in DLS as specifically for TS12 would refuse to download to CMP and I have had this happen twice now.

Another idea just occurred to me; could I make a second installation of TS12 in a different location, overwrite/replace the Userdata folder with that from my TS10 installation (which shows the TransDEM images even though I didn't install them) then update to SP1? Effective giving me two TS12 installations, one of which is clean.

if I did this would there be any implications for CMP or the serial numbers for my add in content?

G'day pogbellies,

...I am probably far too late, here but you DO NOT need to re-install TransDEM. In order for the 'built-in' latest version of the TransDEM texture set to 'work' in TS 2012, ALL you need to do is to install the *.cdp of them (kindly provided by geophil in the TransDEM installation folder), as a normal *.cdp file in TS 2012...

..to do this, open C.M.P. and mouse to File Menu>Install *.cdp and point C.M.P. towards the file mentioned above by Big Vern (look for the file called "TransDEM Ground Textures Orthoimagery 128V1.cdp", located in the TransDEM Ground Textures Sub-folder) and once TS2012 has installed this file,, ALL of the 'old' Streetmap textures will magically re-appear the next time you open the route and any warnings you have will disappear...

Thanks Jerker, I could not find any CDP with the TransDEM stuff so I made one from my TS10 installation searching for keyword "TransDEM" and saved it. I then imported it to TS12 and hey presto! My textures are back. Happy days.
