Trying to decide between '09 and '10. Issues with each version?

Wait, there are diferent versions?

PS: Hang on, do you mean like regional wise, where this game will work in Europe but not in the US, or vis versa?

Wow! That thread bump worked fast!

No I mean actual different versions that are geared to different regions like Europe, North America, Australia, etc. Like some earlier versions that had a Railroad Simulator for North America and a Railway Simulator for the UK. Also, there are/were "Engineer's Editions"

Hi Transportfan

The different names were 'localizations' of the same software (in some cases, these had the language changed, in others they were purely name changes by the regional publishers).

There have been some 'regional' editions, which included different content. The TRS2004 'deluxe' editions were examples of this. Generally these 'regional' editions are only released if a publisher is wanting to release a region specific edition, such as 'TRS2007' or 'TRS2008' (TRS2008 being TC1/2's game platform, with a European specific content set).

In the case of 'engineers edition'. This is the 'TS2010' release of Trainz (known in full as 'Trainz Simulator 2010: Engineers Edition'). This was originally going to be known as 'TS2009:Engineers Edition', however as it was released later than originally planned, it had the name changed to TS2010. It was originally going to be the second half of the TS2009 release, having the new content included, but no surveyor (making it a 'driving' edition). This then changed to a 'full' edition of Trainz (new content, and included surveyor, as well as a new features, etc), and was renamed to TS2010:EE

For most releases of TS2010, the name will be 'TS2010:Engineers Edition', since this is the name for the international release. Some localized editions (language changes only) may see the 'engineers edition' dropped from the name.

If the US publisher were to organise for a 'regional' release to be released, this would likely end up with a modified or different name. However, this would only occur if the US publisher were to organise it.

As it is, much of the new content in TS2010 is focused on the US (the 'ECML' route is the only non US/Candadian style route, with all others being either US style, or US based maps).

The short answer is that TS2010 is the same no matter where you buy it. I am not aware of any modified versions of it, and if there's any doubt, just buy TS2010:EE direct from Auran. There goes any confusion.

Howdy folks! I'm new to Trainz, and railroad simulations in general (I'm usually a flight sim guy). I'm looking at buying Trainz 2010, but I'm still a bit confused as to what's going on with the different versions, even after reading through the responses in this thread.

Of course, there's Trainz Simulator 2010: Engineering Edition on the Auran website. However, I've also found Trainz Simulator 2010: Engineering Edition Deluxe, US Edition on Amazon. It looks like the Deluxe US Edition includes a copy of the Great American Train Ride 4-DVD box set. Apart from that, what makes the Deluxe US Edition "deluxe", exactly? Is there any sort of additional content? Anything missing? Any difference at all?

Looking forward to joining the community, and thanks for the help y'all!

Welcome to the comunity ASFalcon13!

As to the "Delux Edition", I to have scene these kind of offers for trainz 2010. My friend, with his birthday money, got this, and actualy got the kind of offer from amazon you to are looking at. We installed it on his computer and from the looks of it there was no added content from regular 2010 (From all the engines I have been able to conclude are in 2010). The DVDs are ok, but it didnt matter becouse he had forgoten he already had those DVDs:hehe:

Awesome, thanks for the info! I've gone ahead and ordered from the Auran website...I figured I wanted the free Simulation 3 Pack more than I wanted the DVDs. The British Rail Class 43 on the cover was an added bonus (I lived in the UK for a while when I was growing up).

Now I eagerly keep my eye on my mailbox and wait :)...

new trainzers starting out with 2010 would surely find the learning curve much harder with the latest edition than say, 2004.
But the extra effort is worth it. to lern. There are many tutorials available on the trainz sites thatt will help the newcomer so just playing the sim is not enough. You need to read, read, read!
My 2010 is so foolproof(compared to other games) that I can run in native mode with 2gig of ram and get very little stutter.I also delete any assets with too many errors and now only have 4 assets with errors. No faulty content. However as previously stated, there are assets that show no faults and yet do not work. I put these in the pick list.(what a handy idea) then check them out.
This original thread asked about 2009?or 2010? I think it's well answered.
