I see zero representation of any model railroading with any mountain themes, I.e, logging and mining.
And those hokey, unrealistic fascia boards look awful. Sure they make dealing with edges simple, but they like crap, (to me).

Honestly I see zero difference from the original Trainz Model Railroad edition from 2017

Maybe impressive for newcomers, but insignificantly meaningless for TRS2019/22/Plus users who can handle the two worlds of virtual train modelling: The real scale and the H0 one. The days when we old timers tended to collect everything from Brisbane are gone.

But I do understand that N3V is a business who provides good guys and gals with jobs to earn a decent living and needs to release more and more products to a wider range of would-be virtual train modellers. But that's another story.

What's next for Trainz Plus users? TRS25 or TRS26? The mischievious centralized load/unload update doesn't seem to be attractive enough.

  • Furthermore, the JR MI New II Third Party venture seems to be more appealing. 👏
  • Also, a final decent solution to who-knows-what's-coming-out Portal whimsical behaviour would be desirable.
  • What about support to fix long-time working fine scripts like missed Andi's superscript which ceased to work clock-like with the latest versions of our beloved Trainz.
I better quote one of my favourite trainzy mottos in the past: There's not only one Trainz but a Trainz for each one. :D

I really have to agree. There's nothing here that's outstandingly different from TMR 2017 and that includes the intuitive "Surveyor Classic" mode. And in view of recent history with broken 'updates' I don't see the power of the latest TRS22 code being a top selling point either.

I’m trying to find more information about what is the difference with this edition compared to the standard edition of Trainz 22.

Has this edition been improved in how we create the room and boards to simulate a model railroad layout?

Does anyone know if a comparison of the two editions has been created?

Too new for any of that to have happened. Release was today less than 10 hours ago.

I'm sort of interested to know why this is apparently only available on Steam. Is this a pattern to be replicated with all retail versions of Trainz?

Probably for the same reason that Train Town, Trainz Trouble, TS12, Trainz Settle and Carlisle Standalone Pack and Trainz: Classic Cabon City Standalone Pack are only available on Steam. N3V Games believes it is best targeted at the people that play other Train related games on Steam. Plus, it could be that Steam offered them a high level of promotional exposure during the Steam Winter Sale. Bet I'm just guessing.

I can see that but they are old and TRS22 Model Railroader Edition is new.

I purchased it today and can tell you a few things.
- there is no content store so you can't simply download and install DLCs that you already own but it seems you can import them by either copying the files and running a database update or use the install from disk option. I haven't tried either so I won't be able to tell you if they'll activate.
- its all pure model railroad routes as unlike TMR17, there is no KSC routes included.
- the install includes the 4 routes and they're actual builtins instead of just DLC packs being included with your purchase of Trainz so everything gets installed in one go.
- the Trainz build is 5.4 so IIRC that'd be SP3(?).

I will be honest, I do enjoy these little model railroad editions as in a way, does remind me of the Trainz Classics.

As a bonus, my route seems to be the main theme for the game :D

At the moment, it is not on the Trainz Store.
I did ask Zec in their discord and he said that it'll be a Steam exclusive release; however the routes / content are also available via Trainz Plus standard / gold.

Cheers

1, cut a piece from your software
2, tie it to a subscription service
3, add and advertise previously available payware DLCs as " new " and " special "
4, sell it at full price
= profit

1. only on steam at moment
2. have the routes already in TR22+
3. this no content store to run what you want sometimes a pain

so I can't see any advantage myself at moment

Except if all the assets are preloaded into the install then it makes it easier to get started for those who do not want to spend time downloading from the DLS (e.g. if they do not have an FCT).

It is worth remembering that we (the users in this forum) do not represent the vast majority of gamers. We use the Trainz product line on a long term basis more like a hobby rather than a gaming experience. N3V is reaching out to a different audience that want a quick no fuss gaming experience and are willing to pay $40 for it. They will load the game and play all the sessions on the routes until they complete them and then uninstall the game and be happy. If in fact, this is envisioned as the first of many volumes using the same methodology then it could be a nice source of revenue. Think of it as an updated version of TRS2006 Trainz Driver for those that remember it.
