TRS22 compatibility with TRS12

If I was to purchase TRS22, would my routes built in TRS12 be compatible? In particular, would most of NSWGR 3-position signals be available in TRS22?

Some routes may work after going through the process of updating the assets and such. The main issue you will encounter, and it's a big one, is that Speedtrees from that era won't work past 12. Any routes which utilize speedtrees will need to have those trees/bushes/etc replaced in 12 for assets compatible with the newer editions before moving them over. This can be quite the time-consuming endeavor depending on the size of your routes. It's been years since I've attempted this (and I never went straight to '22 without passing them through T:ANE first), so perhaps some shortcuts have been found to speed up the process, but they will still need to be swapped-out one way or the other. Not sure about the signals.

Signals should work fine there have been updates to many of them not long ago.

With the trees, as mentioned, old SpeedTrees won't work due to 32-bit versus 64-bit data and IDV didn't offer a cross-version license. When N3V updated, they lost all the old trees.

There are a couple of ways to convert the routes. The one I used to replace the trees in TS12 with RMM Speed Trees. RMM made a TS12 compatible and TRS22 compatible version.

In TS12, you will need to use the Bulk Update utility and do a one-for-one update. Once your trees are replaced in TS12 with RMM trees, install the route into TRS22.

With the route in Content Manager,
Right-click on it and choose download to download any dependencies from the DLS. This will update the trees in the process.

You may still have to manually copy over assets needed. You can't do this with DLC or built-in, however, cdp files from third-party websites are fine.

Thanks for the replies. One question - what are SpeedTrees?
SpeedTrees are the "new" 3d-trees that came out with TS12. They were a product from IDV who is now part of Unity. Unlike the old image billboard trees, these use video cards for processing and this helps with performance.

The problems are many with SpeedTrees. The company itself made it difficult to update the trees from one version to another, thus the problem we have now importing routes from TS12 to T: ANE and up. Trees built in an older version are no longer compatible with the new version and new trees can't be used. This makes developing trees for programs such as Trainz because of the longevity of the program and content.

Recently, N3V has gone back to billboard type trees using a program that's freely available called Plant Factory. They are working on optimizing the support for these trees and this Trainz version is currently in beta. Once the bugs have been worked out, it will be up to the community to create trees for us to use.
