TRS19 User Guide

Trainz addict
I have started creating a TRS User Guide document, the contents of which are mostly from the Wiki, but with an easy-to-read Table of Contents and friendlier navigation. It will probably be published in PDF format.

Before I get too deep, I am wondering if anyone is aware of such a document out there somewhere?

Thank you,
Al

Since TRS19 is an offspring from T:ANE, then I'd suggest that most of the content will be near-identical to that of the (flawed) T:ANE Manual (PDF format) that accompanied the final launch product and which is accessible from the T:ANE Launcher File menu (File...View PDF Manual). Note that even this manual has been substantially rendered obsolete in parts by the evolution of T:ANE over the past 3 years!
The main changes (from the T:ANE manual) will be essentially cosmetic, User Interface (UI) differences and the addition of some of the new features such as PBR textures, parallax mapping, etc.
Accordingly, I commend your reference to that document as a potential template. Improve on that and you'll be away laughing.

Thank you PC_Ace. I bought TANE recently to get the routes and I was not aware of its Manual.
Upon a quick review, I think it's quite "pretty", but not a good step-by-step guide. It's certainly better than no manual at all, but, to me, it seems more like a glamorized reference manual. I'm under no illusion that my User Guide will be much better, but I am aiming at a better step-by-step approach.

I will be happy to send Alpha copies to anyone who requests one, for feedback. First Alpha is about a month away.

Thanks,
Al

Thanks for the work.

I Have been a long time user of Trainz and am still confused with some of the features that have been added through the years.

I really could use a good Users Guide.

Wouldn't mind an alpha copy.

Dave

While the arrangement of information is important it must have value. Some of the descriptions lack coherence. Particularly missing is The Purpose/Objective of the feature.

Hello, searching for a TRS19 PDF manual I found your post. Just wondering if you did go ahead and produce one. Thanks, Stuart

No need to apologise. As an author of technical books and articles I can attest as to just how difficult and time consuming it really is. Add in the changes and new features introduced by every SP and update (e.g. the new features added to Trainz Plus with each periodic release) and it can become a full time task just to keep up. This is more than likely one of the reasons why N3V has not produced such a detailed document - that plus the man-hours required.

My (experienced) opinions
