Not sure if this is now normal

I used to get an image which loaded and I think also loaded the program's 'environment setting'. Now I seem to only get this blank looking screen. The menu bars work as normal. On choosing to click driver/surveyor all is fine, but clicking on 'main menu' from driver/surveyor menu takes me back to this screen [as seen here]. All else is fine...just this.

Thoughts...
Val.

HI,
I’ve had this recently - it seems related to the pc processing shaders etc. this can happen after an update (Trainz, gpu driver, possibly os).

Second time I opened the menu it was fine.

Strange Col,
I am now getting a greyed out screen saying, 'environment loading please wait'. So I wait...and wait. Nothing seems to be loading!

Run the "prebuild" command less quotes in trainzutil. That will precache everything, takes a while if you have a lot of stuff installed.

Since I have never done that before, it took me a while to figure it out.

For those, like me, who are new to this.

  1. In CM open the Developer drop down menu
  2. Select he Run TrainzUtil Command...
  3. Type prebuild into the text dialogue box
  4. Click Ok

and then wait until it completes. Time will depend on how many assets you have installed.

I see no Run TrainzUtil Command... Maybe I don't have it! I have build #117009 have I missed a patch perhaps?

Need to enable it in settings > Dev > Enable advanced debug tools, close Trainz and reopen it then the Run TrainzUtil command will appear Under the Developer Menu, just above Rebuild Database.

Cheers Clam,
Yep that got me to the Utility Command. However after running the suggested command line no difference, apart from telling me there are a number of faults/warnings, was made on the menu screen. Still showing a black, blank screen where there was once a loco image loaded.

It not a major thing as the program still works fine. Loading routes etc are not impacted. I guess I can live with it.

You might just double-check here: C:\Program Files\N3V Games\Trainz Railroad Simulator 2019\resources\images and see if background.png is still there. That appears to be the image in question. For me, I think that is also the image that loads while waiting for a route or session to load, so if that is still showing up, I don't know.

Valbridge, do you have deleted the map somehow? The starting picture is created by a map as far as I know , but I don‘t remember the details. Perhaps someone other can help.

You might be able to deduce what's getting lost by looking through the log. It's easiest to do this while running windowed and with a second monitor but that isn't necessary. When you're at the start menu, click on the 3-bars in the upper left corner and chose Show Launch Window which is located right at the top. The Launcher appears... then you can click on the developer menu item and chose show logs from the list.

A bunch-o-stuff will appear with warnings and even some errors that can't be fixed because it's related to precaching stuff, so scroll through to the bottom and look up. You might see an error of some sort saying something's missing.

The other thing you can try is replacing that start menu image with whatever one you want including one of your own consists. Try picking another consist and see if that works.

I will say that I have had a gray image for short periods as my routes and stuff loads up but it's not long enough to get concerned. This usually occurs after I've downloaded a lot of content and stuff is precaching.

I've been thinking about this a bit more.

What kind of hard drive are you using?

How is the performance overall?

How much space do you have?

For a regular drive, when was the last time you defragged it?

Does Surveyor load okay as well as Driver?

If your disk space is fine and you've loaded this on an SSD, I'd seriously look into replacing the device because a slow loading SSD is a sign of failure. When these fail, they lost performance and die suddenly without warning!

Cheers John......
So shoot me down with a feather its back up again! I changed/altered nothing. It appeared as quickly as it disappeared.
I assume this is 'problem solved'. Gremlins wander the net....hide, then appear, then hide...

Cheers for the supporting suggestions fellas...much appreciated.

The map, I was looking for, is
<kuid2:661281:200003:28> TRS19 Main Menu Route.

It is built-in. Perhaps it was disabled somehow or modified.

Edit: I see, the problem has disappeared.

:D

It must've been LGM aka little green men. They'll do it all the time. Well, maybe not in this case when it could be a lot of caching for some reason. Any big updates or downloads recently?

Actually yes...there has been last few days quite a bit of asset downloading. Might that be the culprit do you think?

Ah yup. The content was being precached and validated. When that occurs, it takes a while to populate the start menu. If you go into Surveyor, the menus are empty for a few minutes, sometimes a bit longer, until they load up. TRS22+ was like that under the previous version. SP1 seems to have fixed that so far.
