TRS19 - Early Access Is Coming!

I do not think there is anything wrong with adding a subscription model. No one is ripped off, because the subscription model is optional. In addition, I might add that there is nothing preventing you from using older content on TRS19. So TRS19 will, at launch, and until a successor is added, have the most content out of any version, some of it just being old.

While I remain totally opposed to the subscription model and the current one off purchase price, with regard to a "demo" in fairness to N3V the problem with modern games is they are so complex, a demo probably gives away too much of the code thus that the hackers and anarchists can unlock the full game.

Seems there are two options available in that respect. First is to buy a one off one month gold subscription for $14.99 or around £12, to try it out but still rather expensive. Second is to wait for TRS2019 to surface on Steam, buy, play for just under two hours then refund if not happy or happy but prefer to buy at a cheaper price in the sales.

Really though in terms of buying what is a 'video game' TS2019 is much the same price as any other quality video game that's available on the open market. My daughter is a keen gamer and she buys a lot of video games and when it comes right down to it many video game titles are sold with not that much information about what is in the box and people still buy them. And I will also point out that some top dollar video game titles contain bugs that can bring gameplay to an utter and complete screeching halt preventing the rest of the quest or storyline from continuing. So having many times sat and watched my daughter load in and play a game she has just purchased at around the same price point as TS2019 I have to say I don't see what the issue is.

Unlike the situation with other producers of video games we are able to come here and discuss issues concerning Trainz. With other game producers where there is a serious bug you pretty much have to go whistle because there isn't really any direct way to make contact with the game developers. Possibly if you're lucky a patch for a bug may be handed down from on high, but don't hold your breath waiting.

As for the demo thing, - yes I can remember when back last century most games would have a free demo, - but nobody has done that for a long time now. The best course if you want a 'demo' for TS2019 is to pay $US14.00 for a month's gold membership and have a play with the subscription version. If you absolutely hate it don't renew your subscription. If you like it buy the $US69.99 version you can keep and perhaps knock your subscription back to silver or cancel it or whatever.

As to a subscription model it's a bit like renting a house or a flat, apartment or whatever. You pay your money and you have somewhere nice and warm and dry to live. You stop paying your rent and you're back outside again. Complaining about the 'mean' landlord that wouldn't let you stay for free when you stopped paying rent is just plain ridiculous. I'm as keen a Trainz enthusiast as anyone here, but really some of the complaints I've been reading in these threads are really quite unbelieveable. As to the money thing I'm as poor as a churchmouse and I can certainly find $US14 a month to pay for a subscription. Possibly folk from countries that have 'die in a ditch if you're poor and have no money' health care and a grudging feudal level social welfare system might be in a different situation to me, but New Zealand at least looks after folk like me when they become seriously ill.

Makes sense (although that probably would apply to the $70 option as the monthly/annual subscriptions are like someone else owning the house and you having to pay rent to stay in the house).

That was my point really. If you want to keep the game forever and ever and hand it down to your children's children you buy the 'house'. If you don't mind 'renting' go for the subscription option. If you now hate Trainz forever the other simulator has a sale on at the moment.

Yes you are right, you bought house for 70$ and you are the owner

This is the basic problem we have. Inside subscription you pay 70$ and is an owner of the house, rest to 150 is monthly/annual subscriptions for goodness.

No, for 150$ you bought the house (TRS19), you are the owner of this house.

No, the $150 is the year's subscription for renting the 'house' and you also got a bundle of rented 'drapes' and 'furnishings' to go in the 'house' which is where the extra cost comes in. Buying the 'house' is the $69.99 option.

Here are some of the comments I found on trainsim.com,
A truer word hasn't been said about the core of Trainz.
Why on earth they have held onto that Jet game engine for 12 years, I haven't the faintest idea.
Another buggy version of unfixed mess on the horizon.
Sounds like the infamous "targeted graphics"they used to hype TANE crowd funding.I fell for that one but not this time.I'll wait and see.
No chance, my throwing away good money after poor software ceased with TANE.
Save your hard earned money.
And if you don't believe me look for yourselves
As regard to what vern said about a demo version possibly being hacked into I believe a good hacker can get into almost anything and no i'm not a hacker but theres some good ones in russia.

so comments from people that have not bought or tried the sim? Go figure.:o

and they keep harping on about the old Jet engine. Shows what they know, typical of most of their comments.

Fine, you want valid criticism? I've bought the game, and i've played it for a while. And it still has a lot of the same issues from T:ANE. Fixed track assets don't connect as they should, the lighting needs tweaking, and many smaller annoyances in Surveyor go unfixed. It has problems. But since it's technically still in Beta, i'm going easy on it.

The E2 Engine from T:ANE is literally just the JET Engine with 64-bit capabilities. That's all.

Sorry - but that is just arrant nonsense - and factually untrue.
Can you please be more specific about which 3rd party Fixed track KUIDs are not connecting properly?
Pro-track is the way to go these days, in any event.
Lighting always needs tweaking - it is, as they say - in the eye of the beholder after all.

Better not read any EULA. I think you'll find that you don't actually own most commercial software, you are granted a license to use it in return for some kind of payment. Note that the term users is used and not owners.

In the end it's up to you to make the best informed decision you can with the information that is available.
