TRS 2010 mega Frustration :-(

The picture doesn't really say why, it just shows what. Which part are you finding hard, the wait?

Well everything started off well with the files downloading at a good cracking pace, unfortunately they have slowed to an average of 20/17kbps per file even though my speed test returns 3mbps.
So there will be no 2010 for me tonight.
What started out as a joke is now very painfull indeed:eek:
First digital download I have ever partaken of and well..
let's just leave it there. :-(

If you add them together you are running about 337 kb/sec. I seems that is the game servers limit per customer.

Instead of days or weeks by mail, it's only a few hours by download and some people are still not happy. :o Why not let it run overnight while you sleep? Remember that watched pot that never boils - well the watched download never finishes. :hehe:

Common mistake a lot of people make is assuming just because you have a fast connection the rest of the world does, there are still many servers at far lower upload speeds than you can download at, either because their connection is incapable of anything faster or by design to control traffic and share out the download slots to avoid the server getting overloaded, or due the fact that the company can't afford to fund better servers with a higher upload speed.

I'm pretty sure FCT's only speed up DLS access speeds, not downloading the actual game itself so that wouldn't make any difference to your download speeds. The fact is that TRS 2010 is a huge program, so even on so-called 'fast' broadband it's going to take a fair while to download. All you can do is be patient and maybe do something else while it's downloading (or, leave it on overnight while you sleep, it should be done in the morning).

You could also try tracking a physical copy of the game down at any game store if waiting for the download to complete is too much (my local suburban EB Games store has several copies for sale still on the shelf, which is where I've bought all my versions of Trainz from), so you should be able to find a copy for sale without too much trouble.

When (if) you do retry, try the mirror server if you haven't already, as this should be a faster server.

Also note that running multiple files at the same time will slow down the individual parts.

When I dl'd 2009, I started it running, watched it for a couple of minutesto make sure it was actually moving, then went upstairs and watched a couple of movies. Came back down, ran the installation. When I started it up, it started auto-patching, so back to the movies I went. I think I watched a total of 4 movies that day, and got a great rail sim in the process. :)

Wakes up @ 5:55am, drives little sister to Train station, (lol - true), reboots, makes a cawfee and toast.. (with vegemite) and:
BINGO! WooT! \o/

Congratulations and best wishes on your success so far. Good luck with the patch, you should have no problems if you let it brew until it is done.

I know how it feels. I also become agonized when waiting interminably for something and not knowing if it is working as designed or scrambling my hard drive. :D

Wow cool! My first driver and consist survived! Patch went off without a hitch :) Thanks!!
Watches mailbox for 10th Anniversary edition....... 8^)

Congratulations from me also. You will find that you have a terrific sim. The difference between 2010 and earlier versions is like night and day. If you import some older assets or downloads, be sure to run in compatibility mode. If I remember, Native mode is the default. Even so, be prepared to make some asset repairs. Faulty stuff will show as red in Surveyor.

Thank you tomurban and anyone else who has commented or offered advice. I am seriously looking forward to rejigging some of the crusty old simple stuff I made years ago.
2010 is just awesome and I will be over the moon when Anniversary arrives hopefully today.
This current PC was meant to be dual boot, but I stuffed up and installed Win 7/64 first, therefore I have an entire 25gb partition that is now specifically dedicated to TRS!

It was meant to be.. *looks to the heavens ;)

I will say this for the second time, this forum was the first I ever engaged in and gee it's just excellent. Much kudos to everyone.
