Trouble with Portals

I have been testing portals, and have figured out how they work. In testing, I had them set to emit a new train every five minutes. This seemed to work perfectly.

I then set-up a realistic scenerio. I had two portals set on the Mojave subdivision to emit trains every 90 minutes. After the first 90 minutes, they worked perfectly. Two new train appeared and followed their commands. However, after three hours, two more trains did not arrive. In fact, I gave up after 3:20 when no more new trains arrived. Why would this work perfectly the first time, then not at all?

Dean,

The portals will stop working if there is any train blocking the exit or entrance of a portal. Ensure that your trains have plenty of clearance from the portal entrance and the main line.

There was nothing blocking the portals.

Does the portal time start over when quitting TrainZ, then returning to the same session? Maybe that is what is happening. The first time, I was running the seession for over 90 minutes, the rest of the time, it was in shorter segments. I think the way it should work is based on the session clock, regardless of whether the session has been running continuously or not.

I'd suggest you use a portal manager rule. These will give you much better control over how they operate and their set-up is saved from saved session to saved session. Personally, I like pguy's QuickPortalManagerV3 the best. Only one instance of this rule is needed to manage all the portals on your route. If you need help setting it up, here is a link to the users manual.

I would like to use the Quick Portal V3, but I cannot figure out how to add it. I downloaded it. When I follow the instructions for adding it, it is listed in the list of rules, but it is red colored, not the normal color. When I click on it, nothing happens. What am I doing wrong?

Thank you

Make sure you have all the dependencies and that they have the latest revision. In Content Manager right click on Quickportalmanager and select Dependencies. When the window pops up, select the button in the lower left to show the items in Content Manager. Download any assets here that you do not have on your computer. It should then work fine.

Dap, I followed your advice, and everything worked perfectly. Thank you for your help. Quick Portal looks like it will be much better than the standard method. I wonder why this is not part of the original TrainZ program.

You would be surprised at the number of treasures on the DLS. Most of them are aimed at making Trainz sumilations more prototypical and less game like. Since N3V is a game company, they tend to do the game thing.
