Trouble identifying a kuid in Surveyor

HI, Im trying to find the kuid number of some assets [trees] in a route. I open Edit Route, then when the surveyore screen opens, click on the Tab to open the menu containing the trees then click on a tree I want the kuid number for but the number does not come up, down in the bottom RH corner nor does the address bar in the tab menu display it. I have tested it with both built-in routes and those off the DLS but all to no avail.
Im using 2012 fully patched up, and have -showkuids in my trainsoptions file. Anyone able to tell me what else I need or what Im not doing? Is there some setting somewhere else that I may have missed? Cheers

If you can obtain the assets name in surveyor by clicking on it, you can then do a search in cmp (by asset name) which will then show the kuid#

The problem with a lot of the built-in speed trees is that the 'center' is nowhere near the object itself, you have to click around all over the place with 'Get Object' till you fluke the right spot. Sometimes using the 'Rotate' tool will help, the rotation will be around the center and that's where you need to click. Other than that though the only answer is 'Persevere'...

Andy :)

Hi nimec,
"showkuids" no longer works from placing an entry in the trainzoptions file in TS12. It can be enabled via the start up screen "Options" and then from advanced tab or developer tab, can not recall which tab, but you will find it - just tick the box "showkuids".
Cheers,
Fender :)

I'm afraid there is no "show kuids" box in my options, advanced or developer. There is an option to show database process windows. I think you might be mistaken Fender.

Thanks fender and captainkman. Found it Its under Options> Developer>show kuids. Now have the ones showing that I want to use, but still cant identify the numbers of the ones I want tgo replace.
Dermmy: tried your method without sucess [so far anyway]
4ndylloyd: opened the layer tab and selected route layer [dont really know anything about layers yet] Padlock icon was open so left it and clicked on the 'eye' icon. That removed all the trees and track so presumeably took me to a lower level layer. It would not let me place any new trees and came up with the error message: 'Cannot add object as the currently selected layer [route layer] is locked or hidden. Would you like to unlock and show this layer?' Not knowing what I was doing I exited as I want to replace trees not add additional ones. Should I have unlocked it and carried on and if so would it hhavepresented me with the chance to rempove the trees I dont want but cant find the kuid number for?
Incidently the route is the Clinchfield. It looks a very good and an intersting route which I have recently downloaded however the pink/tan trees look extremely un-natural to me as a New Zealander and I need to swap them out and replace them with green ones. They are probably OK in the US setting and representative of the area but they are not for me if I uses this route. The yellow ones are OK as they look like wattle flowering in spring. Cheers

Fran: Ive since found and had a look at the thread you spoke of. I see that both you and Shane were essentially refering to Speed trees. The trees Im trying to replace are the carboard cutout type and I dont know whether they were placed in groups or individuallly. Would either of the methods suggested in that thread work for single trees or is it the process of 'unlocking' that is the important thing rather than the trees themseves? I still cant find the kuid number in surveyor of the trees I want to replace. Is it possible that some creators use trees that are payware and therefore not display the kuid number or should the kuid come up whether or not the are payware or feeeware? Identifying the existing trees that I weant swap out is the problem. Cheers

The billboard type tree should show kuid, try and rotate it as Andy said to find the center, you may find it's part of a group. It'll not be payware, wouldn't show unless you bought them.
What route and location are the trees, someone may know or be able to identify them.

I didn't double post, it's this retarded forum system we're suffering at the moment

Any chance of them being part of a tree "spline"? If so, you have to click on the spline circle to obtain the asset name and kuid.

Fran1: The route is the Clinchfield and Im trying to identify the pink/tan coloured trees so I can swap them out and replace them with green trees.
Tomurban: havent investigated that yet. Dont know anything about splines so trying to exhaust all the other ways of identifying the pink coloured trees first
Cheers

I think Ive found it! After countless attempts clicking all around the tree/s as Dermmy suggested, one finally [Im talking a minute or three here] came up with a kuid number so using Fran1's method of drag and drop to the Replace menu, I was able to change two species of tree as a test and start to replace the lollipop look of the route. If anyone else tries it, then before you drag and drop the kuid from the tab list, click on the black dot on the Replace menu [from drop down on RH side] so the it turns Red. It will othen accept the dropped kuid but only replace in that session but if its the route itself and no sessions Im hoping it will change the route. Thanks to all who have contributed and helped with your ideas. Its been very much appreciated. Cheers

Just some more info regarding Showkuids:

The yellow ones are built in.
The white ones are from the DLS.
The red ones are from third-party sites, so if you're making something for Multiplayer, don't use anything where the kuid number shows in red.

If you have any Auran DLC, it will show as built in too, so watch out for those if you are making something for Multiplayer. They can be included, but you might want to put a notice in the description. :)
I have the SnC add-on, and everything for that shows as built-in. That's how I was able to make a Multiplayer session for it.
