Trip To Europe

Updates!

I have "Updated" the spreadsheet please read over 1st page; as that explains a bunch of stuff. I have also added a page for people to list themselves for me to visit. If you would like me to visit you please add yourself to the list (confidentiality concerns have been taken accounted for; read Sheet #1).

Finally!
If you wish for me to go somewhere ADD IT TO THE SPREADSHEET! if it is not on the sheet I'm not thinking about going (Scotland can be listed under Ireland or England; your pick ;) )

Peter

PS: This post has been edited into my original post as well.

If you want advice, you should go through the trouble of reading this (your own) post, not expect people to log into another site etc etc. If not, well... go where you want.

PS: maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to have a thread (somewhere?) where people can present their own neck of the woods (with or without trains?), maybe even show some pictures.

Schwebebahn in Wuppertal suffered from an accident this afternoon. A small truck mounted crane hit a train and injured at least one person. Schwebebahn traffic has been suspended for the time being. Will probably resume soon, no apparent reason to change travel plans.

Don't forget Switzerland

I was fortunate to live several years in Germany and I envy you your opportunity to travel by train through many parts of Europe. During my stay, the most memorable (for me) train trip I took was to Switzerland. If you get to go anywhere the Rhaetian Bahn goes, do so! The trip from Chur to St Moritz is particularly special. The bridges, tunnels, and twisting-turning routes in Switzerland are amazing.

Regardless of where you go, you will not even begin to see enough. By the time you get back from your trip, you will be anxious to take another. Bon voyage!

Yes; I'm bumping an old thread but it's my thread so meh :p:p

Anyways; Thought I'd give you all an update on stuff. Due to some events at work I decided to quit my job and go on my trip. I leave April 15th and will be there for 2 months. I bough the air fare a couple nights ago and am now flushing out the more finer details. If anyone wants to stay up-to-date on the trip and all I have started a blog about it located here:

Peter's Europe Tour Blog

Keep the ideas of places to go do and see coming!! (see link in earlier post or blog)

Edit: Forgot to post my revised list of places. Since I'm shortening the length to 2 months instead of 3 I had to drop some places here is the current schedule, these are in order starting on the 16th of April going to the 15th of June:
  • 3.5 weeks in the British Isles
  • 1 week in Paris
  • 3 Days in Amsterdam
  • 4 Days in Munich
  • 4 Days in Vienna
  • 3 Days in Slazburg
  • 3 Days in Venice
  • 1 Week in Rome
  • 4 Days in the south of France.
  • Return to London to fly out.

Possibly another trip. I had to cut off a number of places I wanted to go to; and am still looking like I'll be over-booked. Oh well I guess I'll have to start saving my $$ again :)

Edit: Oh their is an updated timetable on my blog.

Well this is it. I leave Ann Arbor this morning ~9:00am on a but to Chicago. Then I got a couple hours there; before flying out. Anyways I will be less present than I have been for a while.

Cyall! oh, make sure you keep tabs on my blog: http://pfreeman008.blogspot.com

Awesome, I'm a bit jealous ;)

Nah, I'm probably gonna go back to Europe sometime within the next 10 years or so... I really don't like flying(especially since 9-1-1), they need a Transatlantic "Eurostar" :P

Every country has it's GEMS and during your intended tour. you will see many of them.
The contrast in coulers, themes, architecture, customs, scenery etc.. Is something you will never forget.
Of particular interest I would suggest visit HAMBURG GERMANY. This wonderful city with it's canal systems, lakes, and superb water frontage also boasts the LARGEST 00 gauge RAILWAY MODEL STRUCTURE in the world. And while your about it take a look at the MARATIME MUSEUM not too far away.
I don't have the URL's to hand, but you can find it with any search engine.:)

looks a very good trip. i might do that, but you missed out wales! there is alot of very nice narrow gauge there, especialy the mT snowdon railway! but other than that, very well planned, and be prepared for the UK transport to be late and expensive, and dont buy anything in london, because its so much more expensive!

Ok change of plans! I've taken italy off the list. and am now in Prague. I'm thinking of trying to get to Budapest next. SURA!!! this is me giving you a heads up that I'm coming your way ;)

Edit: almost forgot (oh this beer was bit more portent than I thought...) http://pfreeman008.blogspot.com/2009/05/miniature-wunderland.html I visited the Miniature Wunderland (largest model Railway) Pics and a small description linked.

What would you suggest I do in Prague? I didn't really plan on coming so I know nothing.

Strolling in the quarters of Prague and visiting the churchs and the Old City Hall; Saturday isn't a good day to visit the Jewish quarter, everything is closed especially the famous churchyard and the synagogues.:)

Very intersting is the Prague Castle (Hradcany) with the cathedral and the place, where was the older castle of Prague (Vysehrad).

Famous is the Bridge of the emperor Charles with its figurines.

The Loretto-Sanctuary is very impressive to.

Near the National Museum in front of the Vaclav-Square there is a bridge from where do you have a good view at the main-station.

These have been some places of interest, but there are much, much more

On wikipedia you will find a good description of Prague.

Have fun!

well folks its been over saddly for a month; although I found that this morning when driving to work I was wishing I was still over there. Kinda odd coincidence; that I was doing that without consciously knowing its was 1-mo. Anyways I realized today I forgot to post my Top 70 Pics slideshow here. So here it is (click the picture):
