Trinity Industries

For those of you who haven't heard of Trinity Rail, Trinity is Railcar manufacturer, repairer, and updater. (They also have other industrial branches.) In my East Texas layout, Trinity plays a larger role. They have several small shops all over the area, and a large one near Longview.

I am wondering if anyone has made a cargo/load of trucks, bogeys, and other rail car parts? I'd like to be able to deliver steel, trucks, and assorted goods to the Trinity yards and, eventually, have a new car! Perhaps this could be done with a portal and industry combination? Having a delivery track and a consumption only industry and a portal which only produces 1 or a couple of a certain type or types of car at a regular (but periodic) time interval that could then be picked up?

Has anyone made such loads? If not, would/could someone?

They buy in bulk...

Trinity doesn't buy assembled trucks(bogeys). They buy the wheels & axles(assembled) by the flat-bed trailer load(or flatcar).

They by several different sizes of coil springs in large wooden crates about 4'x4'x4'... same for brake shoes, brake hangers, etc.

They assemble the truck themselves to reduce costs.

Up to a certain thickness, they can buy steel & aluminum in coils, the plate steel comes either by truck or rail on bulkhead flat cars.

Trinity has an axel foundry in Johnstown, PA....

Trinity has an axel foundry in Johnstown....which once was part of Bethlehem Steel's freightcar division.

I modeled almost the whole Johnstown Plant. There is a bogey product called wheel something....search DLS products wheel.

Over at TPR, the RSP route has a railcar facility in it, I just don't remember the name.

The facility near Longview does occasionally receive shipments of assembled bogeys, but yes, generally they receive only axles, coils or plates of steel, and crates.

How hard is it to change the name and icon of an consist? It seems to me that General Goods would work for the brake shoes, hangers, etc. Especially if it came in crates that could be loaded in either a box car or on a flat car.

Once I find a consist that appears as crates and can be loaded on a flat car and in a box car, I'd like to change the icon and name to represent the goods needed by Trinity.

I experimented with the portal/consumer plan last night, and it seems to work. I think it will turn out quite nicely! If get the loads, I'll test it all out again to make sure it works as I want.

Is there anyway to make a "Waybill" of sorts (or atleast a notification) when the car exits the portal (meaning it would be ready for use on the line...)?
