TransDem to TS2010

I have recently acquired TransDem Trainz Edition 2.5 and TS2010 Build 49933 with a view to creating a local route. I created the route with vector track and exported to Trainz. From Trainz I used CM to import the content and from the Edit menu in CM I committed the route. Selecting 'Launch Trainz' I selected 'Routes' and found my route listed amongst 9 built-in routes. However, after deciding to make some changes with transDem I have been unable to get the modified route back into Surveyor. I imported the modified route, committed it, but after selecting Routes the route no longer appears amongst the list of built-in routes. What has happened to it? The route is present in the CM 'Installed List' together with the content for the 9 built-in routes, but it does not appear in the Routes list. Any ideas?

So, I have been playing around with Content Manager and if I right click on my route I can select 'View in', and one of the options is Surveyor. So I can now at least explore Surveyor, but my route still does not appear amongst the built-in routes as it did before.

I still have a problem with TransDem in that it appears to automatically insert actual track rather than a line where the track should be laid. Fine, but it is the wrong sort of track. How do I change this?

Hello eddieprice,

Creating the route went Ok.

How did you do the modification to your route?

Wrong track ? - Have a look at the pages 41-42-43 of the Transdem Trainz Edition manual, with a special attention on page 42 - object kuid

Best regards

Hi Kurt.

As to modifying the route, I simple used the Route Editor in Transdem to place a new polyline. I then exported the DEM and the new track spline. My route has now reappeared in the Trainz Route list, but only after selecting it in CM, right clicking and selecting 'View in' Surveyor. Then in Surveyor I saved it and it now appears in the Route list.

As to pages 41-43, yes I had seen that and when exporting I left the box alongside KUID blank assuming it would not include any track, but it does. When I export the DEM and Track spline from TransDEM 8 files are produced, two of which are text files, but from reading these files there is no mention of the track KUID. How do you determine what type of track is being used? How do you view track found in the Download Station?

When opening a route for edit in Content Manager, make sure that the route does not already exist in the destination folder. Otherwise Content Manager invents a new cryptic/illegible route name for it and you would never guess it's the one you want in TransDEM. See pp 52,53 in the TransDEM Trainz Edition manual (version 2.5).

Hello Eddie Price,

Well, this is odd. If a track has been implemented in the route, there must be some trace available in the config.txt or by looking in CCP.

What do you mean by How do you view track found in the Download Station?

Best regards

It is not always obvious from the name of the object, eg 'narrow gauge track' what the track looks like. As it happens I have now found some 2' narrow gauge track for which the kuid is 35412:38105. when I used this in TransDEM for exporting the track I got the track that I wanted. It is a slow process, but I think I am slowly getting there.

From page 52 of the TransDEM manual it would appear that you can edit a Trainz route with TransDEM, but it is not really clear how this is done. I would like to explore the parameters in the TransDEM route exporter for 3-Dimensional Vector Data. My route rises from sea level to about 350m and it winds its way around the hills. I would like to see how varying the various parameters affects the way the route appears in Surveyor. Is there an easy way of exporting the route from TransDEM and viewing it in Surveyor?

The available edit functions in TransDEM for a Trainz route are grouped in the "Trainz" menu entry. From the TransDEM point of view, there is no difference between a route freshly created by TransDEM a minute ago or an existing route opened for edit by Trainz Content Manager, with one exception: "Export and create: DEM and ground textures..." will always create a new route.

For my testing I usually let TransDEM create more than one instance of the route (with slightly different names) and fiddle about with the parameters between exports.
