Trainz_New_concept_and_building_high-altitude_route

Thank you John and Sebastian!

I have now proceeded to the HOG stage after compiling the topography.tga but this is failing with an error:

Generating-terrain-using-HOG.jpg

I have used Gimp for the Photoshop stage but followed the procedure: open profil.bmp then open each Geotiff as a new file, scale to 225x232, Ctrl A, Ctrl C, then paste item the main compilation XCF as a layer on top of the profil.bmp. I then moved each layer in turn after changing the opacity to line up over the DEM. There are a few gaps so I must have missed a step. It looks to me like the DEM has the wrong projection as it has slight diagonals whereas the tiles are a fixed rectangle.

Unless you have any other suggestions, I will retrace my steps and try again.

Kind regards,

Gary

same resolution

So right now you need to find the resolution of the elevation map first.
The easiest way is to open such a file with the Irfan Fiew program and read the resolution size on the lower bar in the program

applies to the file you link to the HOG in the Ground Elevation

in general, the resolution of the terrain topographic map should be the same as the resolution of the terrain elevation map
Sometimes a difference of one pixel causes a problem and you need to adjust the resolution of the topographic map

(resolution 225x232 does not apply to your map, so skip this step)

if you stick to the tutorial then
in the folder 6_HOG_profile_and_topography folder you should have two *.tga files

profil.XYZ.tga >> elevation map after conversion
topografia.tga >> topographic map from Photoshop or Gimp

open topography.tga, for example in Irfan Fiew and adjust the resolution to be the same as in the file profil.XYZ.tga

other technical notes:

Because for Trainz, 1 meter this is 10 meters
don't expect your topographic maps
applied to the terrain profile were accurate.
It won't be accurate or pretty !

Only then will the topographic maps be nice and accurate
when you use program Basemapz
but then it will be scenery flat tiles ! for submission in editor Trainz

Success!

Hi Sebastian,

Great news today - I've now got my route with the terrain I have working on into TRS2022 with the ground topography textures after resizing the topography TGA dimensions to match the terrain, although the lighting perhaps needs adjusting and the mini map textures are not there yet but I will continue following your instructions as there are some steps I need to follow I think but just wanted to test.

Hi Gary,

In the packed archive there is a file named profile.dat
This is the file that will set the lighting for you, you just need to change it in session. This is very important because after changing the lighting the textures look completely different

Another thing
Global Mapper can overlay any topographic map downloaded from several websites to choose from. What you put together by hand in Gimp Global Mapper will do for you with one mouse click,
you only need to choose the appropriate map you need from the website, the choice of different maps is large (also photo maps) and you create a topography all at once without placing tiles
To try this method, start the tutorial from point 2c

technical notes
Sometimes the HOG program does not accurately assemble the terrain profile and the topographic map and you can see the difference in Trainz that, for example, the ridge of a mountain is slightly tilted to the right

then
in Gimp once again correct the entire topographic map by moving it slightly to the left so that finally in Trainz everything fits perfectly perfectly

the texture of the minimap is the same as the topography
it's the same file, if you want you can draw a bare butt
but the size must be the same

best regards
Sebastian

Hi Sebastian,

I've replaced the previous topography generated from the tiles with a OpenTopoMap TGA and separate orthophotos TGA generated from Global Mapper as you have suggested, which is a really quick way of generating these. I have tried to regenerate the mapfile.gnd in HOG before dropping it back into the TRS22 route folder but was getting weird colours so created a new route and that worked. The lighting is much better with the profile.dat you have suggested in the session folder. The minimap seems to be just blank white still though.

Hi Gary,

The profile.dat file is nothing more than the environment-lighting weather settings that I created very successfully after cleaning up a bit in scripts and errors
so this startup file of mine is special!

So you too can create such a file for yourself, possibly correcting my settings after loading, editing sessions afterwards
and pulling out the file for myself
Such a file can be changed later in any session you need to change the light and weather if you need

another matter
If the topography.tga file does not display the minimap in Trainz
are 100% new Auran changes to the minimap display in TRS22!
because in TRS19 there is no problem with that

best regards
Sebastian
