Trainz wont run

the game was purchased and downloaded through Steam and my user account is the only one on my computer and set as the administrator and as far as anti vires goes I always turn them off when downloading or installing games

Well, there is 'administrator' and then there is 'Administrator'. Believe me, one is more of an "administrator" than the other.

I am like you - the sole user of my computers, and I have set my account to be an 'administrator' BUT when I install anything (or run anything for the first time) I always make sure that I "run as Administrator". You can set any game shortcut to do this automatically by altering the shortcuts properties.

shortcuts of steam games tend not to work as well as they should and because of that I tend to run the games directly through steam since steam gets loaded up anyway when clicking to play them and all my other games run fine it just this game I am having trouble with because I bought and downloaded a few other games too that downloaded at the same time as TS2010

though it seems that Steam is now applying some kind of update to the game with any luck maybe it will fix itself after its finished always a chance that could happen though not always

My only contact with Steam was NOT a pleasant one. I bought the game "The Ship" where everyone is supposed to go around a cruise ship and whack each other. After repeatedly trying to build my account, and get the game to run, I finally gave up. I hope the update will solve your problem.

Sorry I can't be more helpful

well it seems to be a big update of over 3GB 0.o and I can't help but wonder if computers just decided to be akward for the fun of it with no real reason as to why

I would imagine that this update, then, is one of the Service Packs. Best leave it alone and let it complete no matter how long it takes. There are a lot of posts here on the forum where they've interrupted an update and killed the program.

It is entirely possible that this update will get your game running.

the only prob is that it says its going to take over an hour and its almost midnight now lol maybe I will just go to bed and watch TV and leave the computer running and shut it down once its finished (the beauty of having your computer in your bedroom along with your TV means you can go to bed and still keep any eye on your computer if its doing things) I will see what happens after the update if still no luck I will post back though will probaly also post back if it starts to work :)

No problem then. Either way, be sure to come back and tell us what happened. All my computers stay on 24/7 so I just let things run.

Chris:

I've done some research on this error for you using Google. Use the phrase "Error 0xc0150002" for search. There seems to be a common thread that it is one of the three things:

1. Missing the latest DX9 (NOT the DX10 you may have with your Vista).

2. Missing the C++ runtime package you can install.

3. Not having the latest Quicktime package.

For #1, you can go to Microsoft.com and do a quick search for the latest DX9c version. Even if you have DX10 or 11 (as I have on my Vista machine) you can install DX9c and not have it interfere with the other versions. I think it may also be on the Trainz install disc.

for #2, you can go here: http://www.freewarefiles.com/Microsoft-Visual-C-Redistributable-Package-x_program_39486.html and download the package. I do software development so my Vista may be different, but I have 8 different C++ runtime packages and they all co-exist just fine.

For #3, this may only apply to the Trainz startup intro video. Putting the entry

-intro=disable

into your Trainzoptions.txt file might cure that. If not, getting and installing the latest Quicktime package may fix things up.

One final thought. It could be that you are missing a specific .NET package. They seem to pop up like mushrooms and many are NOT downwards compatable. I.E.: having .NET Runtime Package 4.0 may not have what an executable needing .NET Runtime 3.5 has.

Keep trying, we'll get this working for you.

Thanks, Shane. I knew I'd seen that somewhere but couldn't find it, even with a search, for some reason.

Hi All,
got trainz 2010 EE for xmas, as many did. Installed it with no issues. When i ran the program i got an error window stating that " Auran trainz launcher has encountered a problem and needs to close" blah blah blah. I tried to run as an admin etc, uninstalled it and reinstalled it in admin mode etc but to no avail. Running 7, Nvidia 9800 GT, 4 Gb ram AMD X2 dual core 5400+

Please help :'(

I believe with WIN 7you have to Install as Administrator as well as Run as administrator. A possible work around would be to install 2010 in its own directory and not the default Program Directory, something that WIN 7 guards like Fort Knox.

could be a problem with my quicktime since for a while now for some reason its coming up all in another language and seems to stop me playing the sims castway too when I have tried that 0.o will keep you posted if reparing quicktime fixes the problem

have tried following all the advice and the game still refuses to run giving the same error message and have updated quicktime installed visal c++ and downloaded and installed directX 9.0c :(

As Tomurban said, did you allow it to install in the default directory, or did you type in a different location?

This is really puzzling to me. I have a deep distrust of error message text, but I still have a feeling that it is in the INITIALIZATION of the program that the fault lies. Something in the OS is keeping it from running.

Are there any messages in the Event Viewer right after the failure to launch? (Start -> Control Panel -> Administrative tools and then choose Event Viewer). You should take a look at all the fields under Windows Logs: Application, Security, Setup, System.

unable to chose where the games are installed when purchased through Steam it installs everything to its own folder for games and software downloaded using it

Wow, that's a big bummer. I really hate software that won't let me put it where I want it.

How about the Event Viewer?

a whole load of stuff about the game failing but not really giving a reason as to why, this is why I prefer hardware to software lol hardware is easier to get working :hehe: but still I have kinda given up and just went and played civ 5 insted
