Trainz UTC Really that DEAD?

Ok I know it's antique, have to have the FCT (I do) and should go farther up the line, which I did....04, 06, TC, 10 and now this antique. This is about as far down as I'm gonna go. Guess I'm a train nut and want to find out all about the different versions over the years, that I missed. I wish I knew about Trainz way back when.

Now to the problem. It downloaded allright. The content manager is out there in left field though. It only shows about two items downloaded. Now when I try to download something for the UTC, (which I have to do manually at the DLC) it won't go into UTC, it goes in 2006 CMP.

Now the version is 1.5 Build 327. Is there anywhere I can find the patch. I did read something, somewhere that there's a CMP patch. Is this right? If so where in the sam hill do I find it? Oh and, in surveyor, there's no rolling stock to add. Everything else is there. So is that how it was? Or am I missing something.

Also the G max won't work, thats with it. It needs to have an update, but when I try to do that...No dice...So I guess thats way out dated too huh? I did however register it, had to do that manually too.

If anyone out there has any info or direction on this old genny, please let me know, as I've searched and searched and found nothing about it. Shoot, I bought it cheap, off fleabay. I just love to tinker with old stuff.

And, 2004 don't work either. I can't get to the CMP. This one is Version 2.4...Build 2370. Is there a late patch for that also?

you can not update gmax its no longer supported by autodesk
there is no cmp for 2004

You can download/update gmax at TurboSquid.

And, they are not really dead yet: there are still some of us TRS2004 users around, and even probably a couple of UTC users.

The problems with downloading to the desired version of Trainz are fixable.

Since N3V deleted the support forums for UTC and earlier when they added the TS12 forum, all of the information in there is gone. I think I remember that Robin Hoods had put the service pack fro UTC up on a file sharing website, because the link on the Auran website for the service pack ahd gone dead.

Yeah boy!!!!! The UTC is deader than a door nail. IMHO 2004 is where it got good. From there up it got great!!! UTC sure was a waste of money but we all have to learn the hard way I reckon. Well thanks for all the advice in such a short period of time fellers. I'm dumpin UTC, but i'll stick with the rest tho.

For me UTC was the best version of trainz. After that it got a lot more complicated for just sitting and watching the trains roll by which is what I enjoy.

I had a route which was a huge loop, just one through station and control the trains by using the points, it was that simple.

For me UTC with portals & LOD would have been the ideal. I never got the same enjoyment from trainz after UTC.

I started running Trainz with a demo of UTC-405 just as TRS2004 was released.

After about six months running the no-save demo, I finally was able to afford '04.

Computers back then were just past x486 & ran Windows 2000 if you were lucky.

The default graphics could run UTC, barely '04....

As time & gaming programs have progressed & components have become cheaper, new methods of doing business have evolved.

Old computers can be cheaply updated, I recommend two monitors & the latest version of Trainz you can get!

OK, I've got an old computer, it's an AMD Athlon64 with an agp 'Voodoo III' graphics card, running windows 98SE.
How much is that going to cost in updating to run TS12 ?

In the second entry box is a scroll down menu, select TS2009 & allow it to check your computer. It will quickly give a summery of the specs you presently have & compare them to TS2009 requirements...

Tiger Direct has many options, here are refurbished PCs some even have Windows XP Professional(SP3) installed. You can add a refurbished 20" monitor for less than $150.

That some may wish to stay with any Legacy edition of Trainz is OK, but Legacy Trainz editions also run way better on more modern updated machines.

Ah, UTC. The purest version of Trainz, in that it was a model railway simulator that allowed unlimited room and an unlimited budget.

Sometimes you just want to watch the trains run by, and UTC is the easiest one to do that. I have a QLDx2 layout on the DLS, basically the built-in Queensland map duplicated and connected at each end. You could set up about eight trains running in both directions, then sit at the top of the map playing train controller by switching four turnouts.

TRS2004 was the "best" version but it took SP4 to get it right.

Now it looks lovely (most of the time) but there's a lot of bull**** attached to simply running the game. Just like mobile phones, I just want one that has great reception, makes calls and sends texts. Instead I have an iphone 4...

But that isn't quite what you said
That isn't "updating" my old machine, that's "replacing" my old machine & buying a different machine to replace it. Not quite the same thing.
By the way, this machine I now use will run 2010 without any problems, but I have other things to spend my cash on at the present time, 2010 is on the list, but there are still other more important things above it.

Hi macart52.

To get content to load into TRS2004 Open the 'Auran' folder on your computer, then open 'TRS2004', then 'Bin' folders.
Inside you will find a file TrainzHelper.exe
Double click on it and a Window titled Trainz Helper Configuration opens
Click on the Save button and content will load into TRS2004
The next time you start CMP on a later version of Trainz this setting will be over written and you will have to repeat the above.

TRS2004 dosn't use CMP, instead there is 3rd party program
'TrainzObjects' that can be used to manage your TRS2004 content.

Well, I finally got a stable signal, due to all the rain and tornados we've been a havin here. With that being said, so sorry for the late response. Sure do want to thank all of you fellers for the help. In the long run? I think I'll just stick with my 06 and 10. I really love that old layout in 06, with all the logging and coal mines. I think it's called the Norhern Route.

Oh and another one I have is the Classics 1,2. Now that one sure is a big pain in the ol keester too. That there CMP don't work worth a hang. I tried to load another route to it but it just stalls and don't do anything. It's also a big liar LOL, it tells me it's installing a certain kuid, but it just sits there. When it says it's installing, I try to bring it up in the main panel and nothing shows up. Like I said.....06 and 10.
