Trainz UTC Historical Coaches...

I just bought a copy of Trainz UTC for my son and installed it. He's having a blast driving the various trains and using the Surveyor layout editor. Both of us have had lots of experience with BVE 2.0 and BVE 4.0, none with MSTS. I downloaded a copy of the "Old Timer" 4-4-0 American and I was wondering if anyone knows of a set of baggage cars, and coaches from that time period for a passenger consist?

Thanks in advance!

Go mad and buy TRS2009 direct from Auran, it's less demanding hardware wise than UTC and allows you to run a much wider range of locos etc. including the UTC ones. The DLS has more than 100,000 items for TRS2009 these days all free. The UTC selection is much smaller.

Welcome to Trainz! I'm glad you and your son are enjoying UTC. It's a tad outdated by now, but a good starting point none the less. There are 1400 and some rolling stock pieces made just for UTC on the DLS, (I just checked). I would recommend using the SAR Centenary car (even though it is not exactly a USA piece). It has a nice interior, and others have made baggage and coaches out of it as well.

Best of luck to you!

Thanks, Euphod. Chronologically it is a little outdated, but we thought it would be a pleasant change from BVE 4.0. We actually saw it at an Office Depot, so MSTS wasn't around for a comparision. :hehe: We liked the fact that for the most part everything he'll need is in the package already. I'll keep an eye out for the SAR car and see what develops.

Thanks!

Hello fellow Hoosier.

I wouldn't rush into 09 just yet. Since you are running UTC, get your feet wet with it. UTC (even outdated) is still a joy to run. Once you feel you have a handle on things, then get 09 or another version. Be prepared for some headaches along the way. Always remember that when you have questions, use the search function first. Many times, the question you have has more than likely been answered. If you can't find it after searching, post away. Someone will come along and give you the answer or point you in the right direction.

:hehe: I remember giving new users the same advice on my old website (The Old Hangar) and it's still good today! I downloaded the Zephyr from the Streamliner website and that's a really nice piece of modeling. The engine and observation car are extremely well detailed inside. I haven't had a chance to check the other cars in the train. He's already onto his second route (layout) and he's like a kid in a candyshop! The new route he did is based in Australia and uses a lot of desert and rock textures. He made a very large hill leading to an "ore tipple" on a siding, the cars barely make it up there. He's still learing how to make big curves instead of the tight ones he uses that are more suitable to a switcher.
