Trainz trial?

Hi,

I'm considering buying Trainz 2010. At the same time I've read of some of the problems people have regarding rendering (speed, stuttering and so on).

I have a fairly new computer (Win 7 64 bit, 6 GB DDR3 and a graphics card with 1 GB dedicated RAM... I think it's Nvidia GT 320, but I'm not on my computer right now, so I cannot check it). I have, however, read posts from people with even higher specs reporting some problems.

I would absolutely hate to buy Trainz just to find out that it is a stuttering, freezing nightmare on my computer, so this is why I'm wondering whether there is a trail version (or something similar) of Trainz. I work with graphics and know that for instance Photoshop comes as a trial with a limited number of days it can be used. If something similar exists for Trainz, it would be possible to check whether my system is good enough for running the program.

Does anybody know whether such a thing exist, or is it just "you have to buy to try, so hope you're lucky"?

Greetings from Denmark!
Jakob

No trial version as I know, just to compare, my comps specs are core duo 3.16g, 6 g ddr2 ram 768 mb card at 1000mhz. win 7 64 bit.
Runs fine with no issues.

CPU and RAM usage in the 50% area when running trainz.

Buy a boxed version and preferably off NV3/Auran, you will then get access to patches/updates as applicable.
The steam version has no patch available at the moment.

Also if possible install in a drive or partition of on its own.

if you are going to buy trainzbuy it from auran online shops and get the
dvd disk,,, it will take abiout three weeksto get mailed to you ...

Found 1 offering UTC demo, now that would give people a good insight into the modern game, 9 years old is it?

It sure wouldn't show how 2010 would run on your machine :hehe:
I'd feel sorry for someone buying 2010 on the results of using a UTC demo :D

If they tried the UTC demo I seriously doubt they would buy anything, unless they were blind and certifiable. Pass the straight jacket .

I bought 2010 from Amazon. Runs on my HP laptop w/ 4GB Ram and a Mobile Intel(R)4 Series graphics board. Yes, I get some stuttering but I can live with it. My processor is a Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU T4300 @ 2.10 GHz. I get black screens frequently when saving or making mulitple moves (normal screen to map w/ quick magnification change) or saving,e tc. but if I wait a moment, everything always comes back to where I was.

If it's any comfort, Trainz ran nicely on a minimum-spec, E2200, 1Gb machine with an nVidia 8400GS under XPSP3. Now I've got it running on an E6700 3.2Ghz, 4Gb machine with XP-64 and it runs even better.

As OverlordNZ pointed out, don't even try downloading a "trial" version, unless you like malware.

Oh, and also, as someone else pointed out, if you do buy Trainz, buy it directly from Auran, as some third-party services add DRM.

Thanks for all the replies :)

I have checked my computer by now, and the graphics card is ATI Radeon HD 5570 (1 gb). The CPU is a Pentium Dual-Core E5500 @ 2,8 GHz.

Thanks for the advice about buying the boxed version from Auran.
Just to make sure: Can I also just choose to download directly from Auran and still have access to patches etc.? Fran1 wrote that the steam version has no patch, and I just want to make sure it wasn't a typo, and she meant "stream" in stead of "steam" :)

And don't worry - I would never trust sites that offer free trials, unless it was directly from the Auran site itself.

Jakob.

An afront to my gender:'( :'( . Where's that bloody dress gone now.
No I did mean Steam.
Yes you get exactly the same with a downloaded version but I find it better to have a boxed version of anything I have in case a re-install is needed.
Plus if the download is interupted it's corrupted but you wont know until you install the thing.

I have seen original Trainz and UTC (yes 10 years Old) in 'bargian bins' for $5 NZ...like $4.00AU and $3.00US

Of course I have also seen Blizzard DIABLO I on the shelves for $29.95 and thats 16 years old

But aren't people having issues with the steam version not patching correctly? I thought I've seen that a few times here in the forum.

I bought mine directly from Auran and I just checked my order history and I got TC3, 2009 and 2010 digitally downloaded,TC3 was ordered November 1 2008 and it still is available for me to re-download if I need to, same thing with the other two as well as every other digital download I've gotten from planet Auran

You missed reading an earlier post where I said that. Jakob thought I wrote stream, and the last point was about a downloaded version from auran.
