Hi all,

Did a (quick) forum search, and could not turn up anything on this, so here goes:

How does one get SLI running for trainz, and does anyone know of any good SLI profiles?

EDIT: Should have said, I am running Trainz 2009.

Thanks,

hi there

to get SLI running you will need:
SLI Compatible motherboard
2 x SLI graphics cards
SLI bridge
and a PSU with enough watts for the cards (and everything else)

i am not sure how to install but there must be some documentation somewhere to installing sli (could come with motherboard or graphics cards) the supplied software will most likely contain the nessecary software to get profiles and settings sorted

hope i could help a bit
Nathan

Hi,
Thanks for the help, I was actually looking a bit more at the software side of things as I have experience in hardware installations like this, I've just never found out about the software side.

Thanks,

I run TS2009 in both SLI and non-SLI.

I have 2 x6800GT nvidia graphics cards. The latest nvidia drivers. You go into nvidia control panel making sure you are in single monitor situation and select SLI.

I have found it a little finicky to get into SLI. You may have to experiment with resolution and refresh rate. And you may have to restart computer.

Once in SLI mode there is nothing special you have to do. Just start TS2009. Benefit is much higher FPS and faster graphics where you are graphics performance limited, but it won't do much for any situation where you are CPU limited.

Now if you are talking profiles and desktops I'm afraid I'm just experimenting with those but it appears that once you have your parameters set and you have told the Desktop Manager to use all settings then you can define a number of desktops and profiles. For instance, I most often have 4 17 inch LCD monitors attached to my graphics cards as this gives me plenty of real estate for working in CM2 and doing repairs to assets. So I have a 4 monitor profile and desktop. BUT multiple monitors cause heavy performance loss if in-game so you want a single monitor profile and desktop SLI or non-SLI when in Driver.

I also have a setup for running TS2009 on my 37 inch LCD TV. I have found that an HDMI connection, using in my case a DVI/HDMI adaptor, is far superior than standard TV connection particularly where in-game overlay windows with text are concerned. On standard TV text blooms and is out of focus, whereas it is almost normal on HDMI. Of course a high end computer monitor using dual DVI output and running at 120Hz would be better, but my budget doesn't stretch to that.

Thanks! :D

I have a Packard Bell 6810 SLI with the same graphics arrangement as Ianwoodmoore. Its definitely an advantage, as when I bought TC£ I found I could run the whole route while many people said they struggled to ru one of the mini routes. In Nvidia Control Panel you adjust the slider towards either Performance or Appearance.
BTW I have read that there is such a thing as "Tri SLI" but vannot remember the details.

Thanks for the replies! :D

@big_b: Great info, thanks!

@Lewisner: Thanks for the info! :D There is such a thing as a Tri-SLI system and a quad-SLI system, as you rightly said. The tri-SLI system requires three graphics cards that are compatable with the system, and the qud-SLI system requires 2 graphics cards with double GPUs on each board. Each setup requires a compatible motherbaord and lots of power!

That I don't know, but they do already have a profile for TRS 2004 on that site, maybe if you take a look at it, and modify for TRS 2009?

Or alternatively, download and run FRAPS and try different modes to see which gives a better frame rate.

Thanks for the advice! I'll try this out as soon as the card arrives and I have time to install it...:udrool:

Hi all,
Sorry for disappointing you, but the card was DOA and I was forced to get a refund for it, and my budget has now been slashed to exactly £0.00 for future upgrades.

Sorry,
