Trainz Problems!

Hi all,
I've been having problems with trainz 2009 for quite a while now.
When driving a route, everytime i click on a train no matter what train it is, i get a screen come on which says waiting for access - the trainz asset database is processing or in use by another program such as content manager or trainzutil. Is there a way to stop this?

Also, whenever i try going on a route which is dark (ie it is night time or the sun is setting), it always crashes for no reason and says that trainz has crashed.
Any help please?

Kind regards
Anthony

I would start with rebooting the computer to stop anything that may be accessing the database, then do a database repair.

Anthony,

The first question I'll ask is what build version of 2009 do you have ? (You will find this on the start screen, bottom right hand corner, the latest build is 44653).

The database access problem (Trainz needing to rebuild it's database) can be caused by shutting down the PC too soon after shutting down Trainz, always allow a couple of minutes as Trainz needs to do some housekeeping after shutting down. An Extended Database Repair might fix this - leave the repair alone to run !

Crashing in the dark is due to the driver not eating enough carrots ! But seriously, I have not heard of this one before. Do you have lots of downloaded content ? if not then I'm inclined to suggest a complete reinstall unless somebody else can come up with a solution. Putting both problems together it seem a likely cause could be a corrupt install.

Regarding the database error, this can be due to having two copies of TADDaemon running (which can happen if one tries to use Content Manager whilst the main game is running).

Regarding the 'crash in the dark', this is caused by a faulty headlight script. This can be tested by running the session in the daytime.

The session starts off in daytime, then as it starts getting dark and the trains start running with lights on, the game crashes. Usually tends to happen when it is between 17:00 and 7:00 on the route. If it is a faulty headlight script, then how do i sort it?

finally I was afraid someone already brought this up so I never asked don't worry it happens to me alot sometimes

It does it with any locomotive with me. If i click on any train, it does it. If any train runs with its headlights on when getting dark, it does it and is really frustrating.

Kind Regards

Seem to have found the problem, the DirectX drivers. I have tried to fix the drivers but it keeps coming up with no problems found, but when i change settings to OpenGL on trainz2009, it seems to run perfectly fine. Any ideas?

That is a known issue with some graphics cards and Trainz. As yet, no working solution has been found (although one may be done, but it will not be for versions earlier than TS12).

Even with the DX redistributable, this may not solve the issue completely, as there is a fault in RenderDirectX9_7c.dll that causes the crashing.

We've had this recently (the crashing while dark). Now with 2010+12 I've never had this issue, I run a mix of locos old and new so why doesn't mine crash or is it a 2009 thing.
As I've said before use the quick drive v2 rule and pull the time back when it starts to get dusk.

I haven't seen it in TS12, but I do still get the crash when in DirectX mode after 5 mins. The 'crash at night' issue was particularly known in TS2009 SP4.
