Trainz Problem

Hey guys ive had a problem with trainz for a while and ive tried figuring out why but im not sure anymore. Trainz says i dont have enough system memory (255 out of the 1 Gig recommended by the diagnostics tool). I have 6 gigs of Ram plus the 2 on the graphics card. I cant figure this out Win 8 shouldnt be using almost all 6 gigs.

I have the following
6 gigs of Ram
Win 8 64bit
[h=1]GeForce GT 610 2GB DDR3
AMD A6 5200 2 Ghz Quad Core
300 watt power supply ( yes i know i need a new one )[/h]

If TrainzDiag is not reporting the memory correctly, I would check that the system is picking it up correctly as well.

Installed Memory "6.00 GB", but there isnt any way that WIN 8 should use almost all of it is there? is there anyway i could allocate more ram to system use or?

It shouldn't do, but I would suggest checking what else may be running at the same time. As I haven't got Windows 8, it's difficult for me to check.

Can I get you to post the part of the TrainzDiag log that covers the pass/fail/warning part? (Use Save Log then open that log in Notepad then use copy and paste)

Shane

What i dont understand is that with my current set up trainz is laggy, 10-15FPS sometimes lower. I use content from mostly JVC,Jointed Rail,RRmods,USLW,POFIG

That's interesting. It thinks that it can only find 4GB, but it's also reporting the full figure as well. That may be relating to Trainz being a 32-bit program though.

A note though - make sure you've also got the latest version of DirectX 9 installed, as Trainz does not use DirectX 11 (at least until the new version is released in December.

Shane

I have WIN 8 so i cannot install DX9, is there anyway i can optimize performance? i still think i should be getting better frame rates than what i am now.

Actually, you can. Use the redistributable method or my DXInstallHelper tool - both methods will update the DirectX 9 files that are already present.

Shane

Well, I installed DX9 and to no avail. Should i really only be getting 13 FPS or less with my Current Set Up? The game runs WORSE if i turn the settings all the way down, but if i turn them all the way up it seems to fair better.

GT 610 is a bottom of range entry level card. That's more than likely the problem.

From a review.

At the bottom of the 600 series retail stack is the GeForce GT 610, which is a rebadge of the GT 520. This means it’s either a GF119 GPU or cut-down GF108 GPU featuring a meager 48 CUDA Cores and a 64bit memory bus, albeit with a low 29W TDP as a result. This is truly a rock bottom card meant to be a cheap as possible upgrade for older computers, as even an Ivy Bridge HD4000 iGPU should be able to handily surpass it.

I should advise you that even upgrading the graphics card may not sort everything as it will still depend on your hard drive/SSD (depending on what you have - if you've got a SSD, it should be less of a problem).

Shane

I'm referring to the fact that if you've got a slow hard drive in your system, this will account for some of the lag as it has to load assets from the hard drive/SSD into the system. If it's a SSD (solid state drive) then it shouldn't be a problem.

Shane

You will need to check what kind of hard drive it is. Device Manager should help here, although the TrainzDiag report may also contain this information.
