Trainz on facebook = BAD

I am so glad I do not use Facebook!
Complete lack of instructions before you even create an ID.
The notion of too much personal info being in Zuckerberg's hands and who knows who else.
The things I have seen users do.
The problems I have read of users who cannot delete their accounts, sound like trying to leave AOL.
Not for me! If I want to make a public fool of myself on the Internet, I'll make my own website.

I went to the official Trainz FB page and don't see the swearing, I must be missing something.

Trainz on Facebook Does = Bad!
America (and probably the world) is diehardly, ridiculously, ultra-extremely obsessed with Facebook and Twitter. All I ever hear, read, or see these days is Facebook and Twitter, Facebook and Twitter, Facebook and Twitter, Facebook and Twitter, Facebook and Twitter, "Find us on Facebook", "Find us on Twitter", etc., etc., etc. I am not against social networking in general, but it seems that in just the past year or two, America has all of a sudden become so obsessed with just those particular two websites, Facebook and Twitter, and I hate that. I guess that, therefore, it just figures taht Auran/"Never"-Fail would follow the status quo and join the ridiculous obsession of Facebook and Twitter by putting a Trainz page on there. I will tell you one thing: A while back, our local news (ABC11 Eyewitness News) used to allow people to comment on stories on their own website. Now, guess where it is? Now, since the F. & T. (you know what those two letters stand for) obsession, they have changed it to where people comment on, you guessed it, their own Facebook page. :'(

I think one of the best things about the internet is the ability to write whatever you want towards whoever you want. The magnificent freedom of the internet means that you can swear, be racist and rude with little consequence. While I would never ever be racist at all, I spend a lot of time however, being rude and obnoxious, sexist, homophobic and generally annoying to people on youtube and facebook. its great fun and I would probably say its a hobby. Its also great fun to be insulting and rude etc on facebook pages. The more shocking the better. The internet allows you to say things you wouldn't say to someone's face - thats the best thing about it! You can be a spotty, weak, coward, a computer nerd who probably got bullied at school (like me and imagine most of us trainzers) yet you can come online and throw around abuse all day without a worry.
Lets rejoice and celebrate this fact. I encourage you to join in!

I actually have a FB account. If used wisely, and don't say anything that you wouldn't say in public, then you're safe. The problem is people say things up there that would normally be in a personal conversation, and this is what gets them in trouble. I've seen that myself with a few people already. One family member said something nasty about her boss. Guess what? The next day she was reprimanded quite strongly.
FB is a great way to keep in contact with friends and people with similar interests. I was first introduced to FB through a museum that I support. A fellow supporter was looking for a free way to advertise the museum, and I joined in to help support too. www.frederickcollection.org Check out the museum, it's quite the place to visit.
One of my other hobbies is severe storm chasing, and other members of a group I belong to joined and we use this as a way to share photos and information. A few of them have become good friends, and we use this as a way to communicate with each other.

Amen. Aren't we all glad Ed never retired for good from the forums? I know I am, about the only decent laughs you get around here...well except for the Nick the Steam Engine series which turned from a kids show, to a soap opera to a comedy in a matter of a month.

People who are civil on Facebook yet not quite normal in real life.
Here is but one example from the many local events I dealt with this past year.

Notice how Ms. Berardi was on Facebook playing soon after the event, I'm sure she is quite nice....on Facebook.
I prefer real people interaction.
There are others too, MySpace used to be big, CNN has an affection for FourSquare, social networking has become way big.
