Trainz Object Viewer

There are "Trainz Object Explorer (TOE)" and "FileViewer XP" programs that let you check content created for Trainz without having to run Trainz program itself but I think that those programs were not updated for a while. Those programs may not display content created for later versions of Trainz properly. Any suggestions?

rweber95 posted that it did. But it really shouldn't make any difference as I'm looking at .im and .pm files which are only dependent on Gmax. Or is the link from milcien wrong, i.e. not version 3?

teddytoot,
CMP doesn't directly display meshes like TOE but CCP does somewhat. If you open an asset, that has an .im mesh file, for edit with CCP and highlight the mesh default path, a small box will open in the upper right corner and will display the mesh with textures. You can zoom, translate and rotate the object just as in TOE. However, the display is very small and it also only works with .im meshes, not .pm meshes.

Thanks Bob. That explains it. I avoid CCP like the plague!

As pointed out Fileviewer acts on the .im and .pm files so is independant of the version of Trainz. I also use Jetview which, although rather more awkward to use, will load and run the animation. As it uses the Jet engine it is also useful when one runs into problems of the mesh not displaying in Trainz since Fileview will often show the mesh when Trainz will not.

Fileviewer and your trainz version DO NOT MATTER. And is stupid to assume so, all file viewer does is read the im and pm type JET mesh files.

Which version of trainz are you running? for TRS2006, CMP does the same thing as TOE.

Not really, TOE views the Gmax file directly (if it's in the right format for TOE to read, it is an older program), it works well with TrainzObjectz (in TRS2004) if it can read the image file, if TOE cannot read it hangs forever before deciding it can't)
CMP just views the creator supplied thumbnail pic of the asset.
Correct me if I am wrong ;)

I just upgraded to Fileview 3.14.2. It still has the same limitation of not being able to display mesh textures of the type .texture. Only handles .jpg, .tga and .bmp.

What is this Jetview? I googled it and found nothing. Seems as if it would be very useful, can you clue me in?
Thanks,
Mick Berg.
