Painted part of a wall last year; the bucket of paint stills waits patiently for me, congealing slowly slowly...
Anyway, thought I'd try to prise the fanboys away from their (supplied?) prompt cards by approaching the Next phenomenon from a different tack.
First, I had wanted to compare the image used to introduce TANE back in 2014 with what is meant to characterise the next version - but cannot find a copy of it anywhere (new day dawning, front of steamer to left, radiant golds and green everywhere else). So I will pass on to picking over the flattened oval that is supposed to express the excitement and whatever else NEXT is going to bring into our lives.
So, the image itself:
Now, compare this with the freshness and promise of the TANE image, which was hugely influential in drawing so much support for what was a new departure in the Trainz franchise. In the Next image, the colours are muddy and dull. They are arranged in a random way without the dynamic development possible with the spectrum. There are four "betters"; three are the same (cold) blue, while the last "better" begins the diarrhetic sequence that leads to the (sickly) green "happier customers". The distribution of slogans is asymmetrical, so that one of the slogan occupies twice the area of the others in the straight segments - the slogan moreover that is daubed in full excrementality(!). (Obviously a sublimated comment on nev's actual inability to do this with any success.)
This piece of throwaway junk is supposed to represent "a positive feedback loop that drives" etc etc.
In fact the whole Next proposition speaks of weariness and burn-out, a complete loss of conviction and committment. What it says is:
GIVE US YOUR MONEY AND WE WILL GIVE YOU... well, you can see for yourself what they will give you.
Trainz needs new blood. Hopefully nev will be man enough to see that.
