When I talk operations, this is one of the 2 layouts I refer to the most. They are insanly good with their operations, both in realism and complexity. Which equals a load of fun.

If you can texture something in blender, you can apply AO to it as well. You just change the render setting to Ambient Occlusion. Its 1 button, seriously! I hope that helped.
