Trainz MD5

I have downloaded Trainz 3 times now. The first time didn't install. The second time installed but the simulator was totally messed up. For example, the tutorials section was in the menu twice and there was nothing actually in either of them. Most of the consists in quick drive were just black lines. ETC...

Luckily I have a second internet connection to the house. So I switched internet and downloaded the third time. I haven't gotten around to installing it yet, doing that now. But what I have noticed is that every single set of downloads has different md5's. Naturally this explains everything but after some googlefoo and a search here in the forums I was unable to find anyone who has the correct md5's for this game. I am at the point that even if this install works I will wonder.

So I am posting mine for this last download. After the install I will post the build number this installs. Also I will post if it works, obviously.

Wot's an MD5? Probably just as good to compare file sizes.

I was thinking the same thing myself, actually I'm surprised that no one has brought up the old MD5 before...

Install complete, build shows as 43434 and it seems to be working fine. So AFAIK the posted MD5's are the correct ones.

Someone brought it up in a thread from 2007, but they didn't have the MD5's they just asked for them.

I am trying to save posts but they didn't show until after my update. Forgot to refresh first.

File sizes are great but file size and size on disk are two different things and it is possible to have two identical files show different sizes. (Has to do with HDD sector size, you can google if you want to know more.) I would have to do research to be sure what windows shows by default and it might not be the same on every version of windows.

Long story short, hash files should be correct regardless so no worries.

The patch worked for me. I am showing an MD5 of:

Now everyone can breath again and relax.

Ahh well at least now if someone has a download that isn't working that can get this information and perhaps save themselves another 5 gig download.

See how they compare and I will do the remaining 2 if necessary. It has always been my impression that hash numbers can only be compared if they are generated by the same program.

My numbers are nothing like yours, not a good showing for the hash number process. I think it needs the same generator to compare like with like.

Mine match yours Narrowgauge.

It's important to say what kind of hash numbers. Mine are MD5 numbers. If you don't use an MD5 Hash generator then they will not match. MD5 is very common but it is also old and there are several newer hash generators.

Edit: Oops, misread, I thought it was two people replying. Ok so our numbers don't match, are you using an MD5 hash gerator?

Also do your install files install to build 43434?

I used an MD5 generator, but I didn't know you were using a later version which would explain the difference, my files date back to the original download of TS2010.

The MD5's will be different depending on what build number was current on the server at the time of downloading and is only really any use for validation, if it is publicised by the originator of the file.
When files are updated due to updates in the program and patches, it is pointless anyone other than N3V publicising the "correct" values as it will just cause more confusion when they inevitably change, as they have in the last week or so, due to a bad download being on the server, see the missing sessions thread.
I doubt too many Trainz users would have a clue what an MD5 is anyway.

Agreed, but they don't post them Perhaps that should be a suggestion.
