TRAINZ LANGUAGE

I don't have a railway background and find all the guides that usw words like 'closenose' and 'razorback drive' etc bewildering. And all the acronyms and other shortcuts make it impossible to get anywhere when trying to make use of the skimpy directions in the manual and various webpages. I am sure I am not the only one with this problem.
Is there a dictionary of Trainz terms? For example when I try to use Quickdrive run using Autodrive my considt runs but ignores all the preset commands. Obviously my fault because the instructions I rely on are so hard to interpret.
Please help save my sanity!!!:o
Thanks, NOOJEE31

Traditionally, the Trainz manual which used to be included in all versions of Trainz usually included a glossary of common terms used in the simulator and by the community, but I guess with online versions now the manual is normally non-existent, or at least, very thin on detail.

There are a number of websites online that have advice for first-timers in Trainz, especially in using functions such as Surveyor and setting up AI trains. Unfortunately I can't remember them off the top of my head at the moment, but I believe they're easily found through a Google search.

G'day Danny5,

...speaking of 'language', you wrote...

..."...larcher..."...???

... is that some kind of French Bowman? I believe you meant to write "launcher". I'm sure Noojee31 is even more confused...

There is a post somewhere that addresses this. I stumbled on it once. Trying to look for it now, there's a bunch of things here to search thru.

Man, that Shane is a heck of a guy! I don't know how I missed his lit of terms. It's going to be a great help to me. I too, wonder what the heck some of theses terms and abbrev. mean. I guess it's all part of being a newbie.

Cheers............Rick

For me, I have trouble with searches. And, the search results on this forum are huge. There are so many posts, you have to go thru a lot to find just what you need! But on the plus side, you can stumble on things other than what you searched for. The problem at my age is remembering where everything is! I have a ton of things bookmarked though. These guys on this forum are pretty darn helpful though!
Happy Trainzing!

Thanks to all, but I have now looked at all the sources suggested and still don't know what is meant by some of the built in commands in Quickdrive. Is there anyone out there who can tell me what these QUICKDRIVE commands mean, please? 'RUN AROUND', 'RUN AROUND TRAIN', 'OPENOSE', 'CLOSENOSE', 'RAZORBACK DRIVE TO', 'STW DRIVE'. Seems odd if everyone with TS12 either shares my ignorance or (maybe correctly) thinks my ignorance places me beneath anyone's interest. But surely one of the geniuses who designed the programme must know ???

I'm no genius (well maybe), and I didn't design the program, but I can help.

'Run Around' and 'Run Around Train' puts the leading locomotive at the other end of the train. 'Openose' and 'Cloesnose' are probably for the Acela expresses, as the couplings for them when they need to be towed are in the nose, which opens to reveal the coupler.

"Razorback Drive To' is for use with the Razorback Railway route and sessions, which are payware from an external website. They are Australian themed, so you might want to take a look at them.

I'm not sure what 'STW Drive' is though.

Hope that helps.

Kieran.

Im in the same boAt. I'm using iPad app. No manual that helps me yet. No train background. Looks like it could be cool app, but need basic startup help. Commodities, ai use, loading timetables......all foreign to me. Any advice or helpful links appreciated.

Much of this content is contributed by the community, and therefore depends on the contributor to document it.
Try this.
Open Content Manager. In the text box of the search panel enter the command name - eg OpenNose. The object will be listed. Right click on it and select 'View config file'. You will usually find enough comments in there to tell you what it does and what it applies to. Run Around and Run Around Ex are good examples of the information you can find in this file. In some cases (and this applies to many other objects as well) you can do Right Click / Edit / Edit in Explorer and you will find a documentation file (txt or pdf) in the folder that opens. You can copy the documentation into your own Trainz documentation file. If you try this, be sure to do Right click / Edit / Revert when you are finished looking.
