Trainz for Mac

Trainz for Mac was announced in the 11th February newsletter. This is strange and wonderful news for the (presumably) few of us that currently reboot our Macs into Windows whenever the ferroviepathic urge befalls us. Yay! And thanks!

Two questions:
1) Will there be an upgrade path from the Windows version to the Mac version?
2) Will First Class tickets be applicable to the Mac version?

A few more questions (and I JUST purchased the Windows version and installed it on a bootcamp partition [for which I just purchased Windows - crap that's a lot of money and trouble I could have saved.])

How will content like Blue Comet or Duchess work with the Mac system?

What kind of system requirements are we looking at?

Will multiplayer work between Mac and Windows clients?

And to repeat one question from above: can we 'upgrade' to Mac for free/reduced price and use our current serial number?

Hi guys,

Thanks for the interest! :D

To answer a few of the questions:

Will there be an upgrade path from the Windows version to the Mac version?

I strongly doubt it. The publishers/distributors for each platform are different, and there's little incentive for one company to give you a discount for something that you paid to another company. Also, there's not a complete parity between the versions on the two platforms.

Will First Class tickets be applicable to the Mac version?

FCTs apply to your Planet Auran account, not to a particular Trainz product.

How will content like Blue Comet or Duchess work with the Mac system?

We have not investigated DLC packs for the Mac version at this stage. This is certainly something that we'll address post-launch.

Will multiplayer work between Mac and Windows clients?

Trainz Multiplayer has not yet been officially released in any form, but I'd certainly expect some form of cross-platform play to be available in the future.

kind regards,

chris

I will be more than happy to pay the full price again (as long as my ts2010 stuff still works). I really dislike booting into windows just to play trains, but you gotta do what you gotta do. ;)

When are we going to get our own sub forum? It will be nice to be able to ask a question with Mac in it with out the general populous spouting how much macs suck when it doesn't have anything to do with the question at hand.

Also if you need anyone to beta test, I have access to a wide variety of macs and would be more than happy to help.
