Trainz ENB Series

I have done some fiddling around with an ENB borrowed from GTA San Andreas, and have just about come to modifying to exactly how I like it, of course other people will like it slightly different then the way I do, but anyway here is some pictures to show the difference.

Having used ENB quite a lot, I can only wonder what effect increasing the bloom power would have on trainz's lighting engine.

Loving the 'Night time with headlight' shot, ENB clearly defines what should be light and what should be dark very well.

Excellent work! :)

Combining Nvidia Surround Technology with my ENB as well as draw distance hack has practically pushed trainz to the bleeding edge of looking decent enough to actually play more regularly.

Hey, how you set one up? I have one for the game you stated, but I don't have a clue on how to work it!

First you need to be running trainz in DirextX, OpenGL will not work as the d3d9.dll hooks into direct X then it reads the ini file for the settings.
Then once you switch over to that in the options panel, place the d3d9.dll and the enbseries.ini file into the bin folder...
For example: C:/Program Files/Auran/TS2010/bin

Then when you launch the game, go into driver and hit shift+f12 and watch it change.

Sorry just makes the bad graphics look even worse to me, it just looks like the contrast was increased too far. Does nothing to improve the appearance to me

So any DirectX based ENB will work for this?

Funny, I was going to ask if anyone had ever tried this. Thanks for confirming that it's possible!
One last thing: Is there any dangers to installing this? and what stable enb have you used?

EDIT: I think you just opened the community up to a lot more versatility in screenshots.

That is why it is an ENB, you can change it to your liking or stick with the crappy default lighting.

The only dangers is pushing your machine over the edge, as it does increase the temperature of the CPU(only laptops really feel that) and it will make the frams per second go down a bit pending the machine, the best to use is a GTA San Andreas ENB, as it is basic and has features in it that trainz will use and not all the extra fluff that a more advance game can use.

I have a GTAIV EnB lying around. I'm going to try that, then i'll post results.
Wish me luck!
I have tried a GTA IV ENB but it is far to advanced for trainz and just washes the image out with a bright white screen, but you can of course fine tune it if you take a lot of time and effort to figure out what setting does what and if that is even used.

Hey Gandalf, I have dropped an ENB into my bin folder, but no difference is seen, even after pressing F12. All you've taken from the ENB you are currently using is the d3d9.dll and the enbseries.ini files?

Are you required to be in driver to see the ENB? Or should it be visible in surveyor?

Sorry about the multiple posts and questions. This is a new, exciting point for me, and I'd like to do whatever I can to experiment with it.
Also: Is there a chance this just won't work on the steam version of the game?

Did you make sure you are in directx mode? I started trainz in Open GL once by accident and tried it and got the same result. Yes that is all I took from the ENB, as that is also why I said the older ENBs are better, because that is all they were, those 2 files.
No you are not required to be in driver I can start the ENB at the main menu and see the difference.
It is quite possible it won't work on the steam version since steam likes to lock down some files, but I am unsure.

Note to all: Confirmed to work on steam versions of Trainz.

Just got an older ENB to work; had all sorts of problems though. Everything that wasn't black became white. Infact, the only object in the environment that did not become white was one old NS SD40-2.

If you don't mind Gandalf, could you share settings, or possibly point us to how you got yours to look as good as it does?

I tried it. It was a mess. Due to my use of bump-mapped objects, it was too shiny. Even the track was glowing!

Just like that! Thanks gandalf! It behaves a bit differently in TS2012, but now that I have a basic setup, I can edit it to my liking.

This changes things so much!
