Trainz Crashes Upon First Opening of Properties Menu

GN1996

Not a real user title.
Hello all! I have an issue where Trainz will crash to the desktop when I open a "Properties" dialog box for the first time since opening surveyor. It will try and load the window, but after about 15 seconds, the game crashes to desktop. Any help given is appreciated.

Regards,

GN

Did you just update the service pack and hot fixes?

If you did, run an extended database repair.

It can take time, depending upon how much local data you have. I do stuff like this overnight.

Actually, I updated to SP1 back when it came out, so I have been running it fine for several months. A similar problem occurred about a month ago, but it was solved and I do not remember how.

Okay... That puts a twist on the diagnosis. :)

In this case, it could be some bad content. Did you download anything new recently?

John

Yes, but I have downloaded quite a bit so it will be a rather lengthy process of going through all of it.

There's not much you can do other than that, dude. Sorry but it's all about the process of elimination.

Thanks for the help anyway, John. It appears my Trainz has gone and done what it did the last time I had an issue with it, and that was fix itself. The first time I launched Trainz after I made my last post in this thread, it worked like a charm. Even though Trainz is fixed, I'm still bothered because this particular situation makes it sound like I'm crying, "Wolf!" As I type this post, I am beginning to wonder if it was my TeamSpeak overlay that was giving me issues. The overlay has given me issues in the past with other games. I will do some testing later this week when I get time and then post back here about my findings.

Thanks again for the help and regards,

GN

You're not crying wolf. This is a data instability issue or perhaps a memory issue if your TeamSpeak is stepping on something. Try running without it and see what happens.

I ran Trainz on DirectX with the TeamSpeak overlay and found that the game would crash on the first opening of a properties window. Upon closure of the overlay, Trainz ran just fine.

Good find and excellent troubleshooting.

I would say that's a conflict between part of Teamspeak and Trainz. It may well be that the two are fighting for the same resources (which when it comes to graphics resources (OpenGL/DirectX) , can quite often cause one or other of the conflicting processes to crash).
