Trainz-build numbers below 3.7 are no longer supported....

It appears that these issues are a side effect of the recent validation code update. The guys have taken a look and think they have resoled the problems, so please let us know if you still experience problems.

Thank you, Tony for the update.

I'll let you know tomorrow if there are issues because my system is still validating my content. I'm now at 15K/41K assets.

Hello,

What is this validation updates that you guys are talking about?

Is it for TS2012? I open content manager and I never face any validations nor when I run TS2012.....I have over 376,000 items in content manager. And that is in build 61388.

Thank you,

Ethan

Wow ... good luck, and keep us inform!

Hopefully, the helpdesk can settle these issues for you, and those having problems, too!

I am surprise the re-install did not helped!

Off-topic ...I've been following the development of windows 10 since last year, and I can tell you John, I think they finally got it right! Never like windows 8 or viste! Windows 7 here! Windows 10 will be equip to handle hardcore games, since Microsoft had embedded xbox inside windows 10!... got more to say but I'll leave it at that, since don't want to get off track on this thread!

I'm gonna be a bit off topic as well, Windows 7 is perfect. Being one who grew to love XP in school, it's a OS that I know much about. Windows 7 felt like a revived XP in a modern nutshell. Windows 10 from the looks also Windows 8-ish with a added 7 and XP feel to it.

Taking this farther off topic....

Windows 10 isn't even close to what you're thinking or observed.

The current build 10074 doesn't look even close to Windows 7 and looks only a tiny bit like Windows 8.1.

With Windows 10 you get:

1) Really fast disk access, even with this beta version

2) Multiple desktops; as many as you can create.

3) Fast internet using the new Spartan... it needs work but it's far faster than IE or even Chrome is today.

4) A real start menu like XP, or Win 7, but it's resizable.

5) Better performance over all and lots more stuff I can't think of right now.

TS12 runs really, really fast and so do many other apps. All are much faster than they ever were on Win 7 or Win 8.1, and this is the same hardware, except for video card which I replaced last year.

...

Examples... There are some code examples already on the wiki, but they don't all have explanations of what they do, and in some cases the documentation is written in "programmer" making the explanation so obtuse it may as well as be written in "chicken scratches".

John

Were any of those mine? I'm an ex software engineer/programmer/code monkey (choose one!) and it is very easy to fall into geekspeak.

I've examined much of the Content Creation WiKi in detail. Some pages, such as those for config.txt containers, appear to be deliberately confined to the topic and can be terse. i.e. they give detail of the container (mostly) but not necessarily examples. The reason, I suggest, is that an example has to be show in context of the asset itself. These are best displayed in a How/To and there are some of those. There are quite a few unwritten.

I've written a couple but they are not necessarily easy to write and one rarely, if ever, gets feedback as to their usefulness.

similar problems with validation today

first 8000 or so assets were validating when i opened CM. i waited about an hour for that to complete. I had 4 brand new assets to install so i installed those only to find they were saying that many components were missing even though some were built-in items. i began a database repair...

didnt help.

this happens every time there is a change to the DLS or DLC server for me, because i have items on the store it renders my current items useless. it usually takes about a day before all of my things are useful again.

Well mate, you certainly are NOT alone with this, I virtually wasted my whole day yesterday trying to get some content for testing into my TS12 SP1 31688. I have a tincan boxed version of TS12 installed and AFAIK only once DRM is validating my version at install. Yes, I know, asset validating is different than DRM but why the hell did my TS12 spit the dummy as soon as I clicked it on, never before it was was doing this.

The reason I normally NEVER go online with this, my creating PC is, so I do not get any nasties etc. I hope the powers that be are fixing this very soon, because as soon as I try again to go online with TS12, this whole spiel starts again over and over.

*Update: It appears that now all seems to be back to normal, the way I experienced TS12 31688 last month. This afternoon, just now, I opened up TS12 offline, it would not open up. So I went online, re opened up TS12, a few Kbytes of d/load were installing itself into TS12 (so I think). Taddeamon did not show me what it was installing, just telling me I was connected and I waited one minute or so for the d/loading to finish. After that I went offline, restarted TS12, it finally did open up.

To make sure I rebooted the PC offline, opened TS12, all back to normal as this was last month the last time I looked into TS12 and so far (fingers crossed) no more opening issues with TS12 31688. Goodie goodie.

Friends, Paul wrote, in part, about the WIKI

... <snippage> ... I've written a couple but they are not necessarily easy to write and one rarely, if ever, gets feedback as to their usefulness.

I think there are several reasons for the scarcity of feedback on items in the WIKI.

First, The WIKI is sadly incomplete. There are 46 pages classified in the category "TBD" [To be done], and I suspect that there are vastly more pages that should be in this category that are not marked.

Second, I suspect a significant part of the community does not know what the WIKI is, of if they do, they don't know how to find it, and don't know what it contains.

Third, a significant part of those who do know of the WIKI's existence are intimidated by it, and don't know don't know how to edit it.

Also, although I'm not including it in the numbered list, I suspect that since the location of the WIKI includes the location "ts2009" in the path, that many think it pertains only to that version of Trainz.

I don't mind writing WiKi articles, but one needs some knowledge of the topic and time. The last two How/To's I wrote took about a week each.

I agree. Unfortunately, the WiKi is not like a book with a table of contents and chapters, but rather a loose collection of pages with links. It is a bit better than it was a couple of years ago but needs a lot of work. Understanding how it works helps a lot.

Third, a significant part of those who do know of the WIKI's existence are intimidated by it, and don't know don't know how to edit it.
That may, or may not, be a good thing. :D The N3V WiKi has only a small subset of the formatting available in the mainstream WiKi so learning is not difficult. I don't there is a learning section or even a sandpit. One Trainzer, who is a whizz at WiKis, has been banned from the site. One of only two!

Also, although I'm not including it in the numbered list, I suspect that since the location of the WIKI includes the location "ts2009" in the path, that many think it pertains only to that version of Trainz.

Yes, not a good choice. I wonder if it can be changed without too much grief.

p.s. Tony has written quite a lot in the WiKi about T:ANE but I cannot recall that being advertised.

Good Morning John ---

And may I add that it's free upgrade for the first year only!

Me, I'm all about speed --- It's my number reason why I am excited about TANE, in that being a 64bit software, it will run faster on this pc -- And when windows 10 becomes available by years end, as they stated, should be even faster! I've concluded that I will use TANE for route building only, but keep using T12 for creating outwardly, lol, items, yet, keeping with the latest built, just in case!

I read Tony's John, so, hope everything turns out smoothly, for everyone too!

I am of the opinion that it would be more accurate to say that only a small subset of the formatting available is being used. I further suspect hat for those who want to use more, it is there for the using. However, I further suspect that the version of the MediaWiki software powering the Trainz WIKI is several years old, and that some of the newer features on the Big WIKI do not exist on the Trainz Wiki.

You can upload it to the Server, but it should kick back an email to you stating that it cant be uploaded due to it being an unsupported version...

I'm pretty sure I tried using the wider functionality but it didn't work. When I find some time I will try again. I still have my T:ANE Track Tutorial sitting in limbo waiting for N3V to provide technical information before I can correct the known mistakes and finish it off. The technical information has been promised for delivery "soon" a few times.

I didn't use SP1 on Friday when all the problems were happening as I was working on a route in TS12(the real one). Last night when I tried to run SP1 it took 8 minutes to bring up the start screen. Then when I started CM it had over 1000 validations to do. So I left it running in the background and went back to my route in TS12. When I checked later it had finished the validation, so I started the game. Every route I tried was running like a slide show, just plain ridiculous. Two days ago they were running perfectly. It wasn't doing any validating so that was not the cause. My TS12 runs perfectly without any hanging or stutter. So looks like I will bin this SP1 for the third time and forget about the routes I would like to run. TS12 works well so I will be staying there, regardless of wht N3V decide to do with it.
Cheers,
Mike
