TRAINZ Back to the Future 4-6-0

YES! Much better! :D

I do have the movie (BTTF III) on DVD. Would a few shots from it help you?

Great idea, I love that train! It would also be great if the "End of Track" and "Track End 1/2 miles" I think it was could be added as trackside objects :D

Regarding the sign, it'd be possible for me to get a few shots of it. I might even model it if you're lucky. :)

The shots of the loco I intended as more reference material.

I can get a few of the tender for you. :)

Kieran.

Thanks. Now as for the pile of crossties that stand as a barricade before the trestle. Would there be a way to have them bust apart when hit? kinda like the siding gate track industry that opens and closes when trains near it or go away from it.

Please, I really don't anyone getting injured backs from working on a project that has a no deadline. Please, take your time and don't sit too long. I want everyone creating it to enjoy this and not feel pain while working. Thank you.

I might start a route for this project. No deadline as I might not work on it during the week. Pictures will be uploaded as progress continues.

That has already been started but both it and the loco and tender have been put on hold so I can finish my drive wheels for my Frisco 1522 model, then once they are sent away to be animated I will resume work on the tender and route. Cheers

The movie was great, the before, and futuristic versions were fantastic !

Someone made a Trainz You Tube movie, of the dead end bridge scene.

The big question is: Since they went back in time, and absconded with a perfectly good running locomotive ... did anyone back in those days, really miss the locomotive, and make note of it's theft, and smashing it to smitherines ?

A few people have done it, including me:

Yep, I am one of em. Kieran, even though the video is old, your video (Back to the Future The other locomotives) When you showed the charge for the 3rd presto log being triggered the explosion actually takes place after the point of no return is reached. About 3 minutes before the log is ignited they pass the windmill and thats when marty says "Doc, were going past 50, you'll never make it" when Doc turns to get clara and thus before they grab each others hand they hit 72mph and the explosion occurs. Not trying to be smart or nothing but just thought I would point it out. Now I am pretty sure that a script could be made much like how tracksounds are set up so the smoke changes color at different speeds.

Example:

0-25 = grey to black smoke
26-38 = green smoke and a short 3 mph boost of speed
39-72 = yellow smoke plus 5 mph boost of speed
73-90 = red smoke/flames plus 10 mph boost of speed

Something this could be used to make it really seem like the movie.

Building the Railroad delorean is gonna be fun to make considering all the parts that are on it and that I have never made a automobile in gmax. B7t all I can do is try

Yeah, I realise the video is not totally accurate. It's one of my earlier ones, and so is bound to be terrible. :)

I don't think you'd even need a script; it could just be set-up in the smoke container. I might do some experimentation.

Don't worry about the DeLorean; I'm working on one. :)

Kieran.

Ah so then we are both working on model for this project? Cool. Now exactly how would you make the smoke change 4 different colors without a script. Also, who knows how to make the chuffing smoke effect when starting a steam engine?

I may still try my hand at the delorean. Now for textures. To make a shiny/gleaming paint job would that fall under gloss or specular texturing? I will get back to work on the tender today, still gotta find someone to animate the drive wheels because steve lerro is gonna do frisco 1522s for me but he has limited time since he is so busy.

Well, I'd make use of the 'speed' mode, where it's possible to set a cut-in and cut-out speed for the effect. I'll do some experimentation later in the week and get back to you.

For chuffing smoke, use the anim2 smoke mode.

For the textures, depends on the finish you want. I think what you want is gloss.
