Trainz and Windows 7.. Does it work?

Every thing you mentioned should install just fine just run the install as an administrator and it should be fine.

I have installed all of Pevs tools on Win7 64bit and these work okay, the only one I have not installed yet is TrainzObjects but as far as I know it should install, if it can't Windows will let you know and give you choices to try and install it.

Trainz Objects can be installed in the normal way. It still runs OK.

Trainz works fine under Windows 7 either 64-bit or 32-bit. I would go with the 64-bit version whether you have more than 3GB of RAM or not. Overall it handles processing a bit faster on the OS side. With the 64-bit versions of Vista even, I found the system to be a bit more spiffy than with the 32-bit. Remember machines can be upgraded, like motherboards replaced, etc., so starting with the 32-bit version is a mute point.

Remember though, the new OS's require that programs such as Trainz to be installed with Adminstrator rights in order to operate properly. This isn't just Trainz that requires it, by the way. If you do this, going forward you won't have any installation issues of content or anything else.

Many thanks John. I have been told that 64bit version can cause some programs not to run at all. Also affect some printers or scanners. I am delighted that Trainz is OK. Would I5750 and ATI Radeon 5850 make a good combination. Didcot

The only programs I've had any problems with running on 64bit windows 7 were those that required special drivers, but weren't written by a company with money to spend on getting drivers code-signed. Such as Sandboxie[1] and Truecrypt[2]...

16bit windows 3.1 executables allegedly don't work anymore, but I haven't tried to run one of those for over a decade - there are some programs that use 16bit installers, but MS specifically made a detection system that detects if you're trying to run a known 16bit installer, and replaces the installer with a 32bit compatible version. So 32bit apps that have a 16bit installer mostly still work with 64bit windows.

The only printers and scanners likely to have any problems are those made by companies that don't exist anymore or for some reason have no intention of updating their drivers.



[1] Sandboxie wouldn't work on Vista/Win7 anyway, since it relies on some process tricks that MS killed off just before Vista and XP SP3.

[2] Truecrypt has since released drivers for 64bit windows anyway, I believe.

TADMON and Windows 7

Anyone running TADMON on a 64 bit Windows 7 installation? I suspect this might be a 16 bit program. I currently run Windows XP but am thinking about a Windows 7 upgrade. I use TRS-2006 but always start the DOS based TADMON before starting 2006 to protect from all too frequent crashes that destroy the Assets.tdx file. This can save hours while waiting for 2006 to rebuild a destroyed tdx file.

with enough CPU, GPU, RAM etc. TS12 will... also works with Windows 8 Professional, which I have here. TS2010 will also. I haven't a clue about older versions.

Well, this isn't exactly an answer to your question since I'm running TS12, but with Windows 7 64-bit the thing I notice is that I can now run up to about 55 trains at once before the AI starts getting squirrely and the frame rate starts to stutter--with Windows XP about 35 used to be the maximum before problems started.

Should run smooth-ish. Just watch out for certain routes like the British and N&W route, it's the trees and possibly high detail trainz that cause the lag.

I have both Trainz 2010 and Trainz 2012 running just fine on a Windows 7 (home premium) (version 6.1 build 7601: SP 1).

So assuming all else of yours meets the Trainz requirements, the OS should work.
