Trainz 2012 vs Railworks 3

Hi Trainzers,
To me it's very clear: TS12 IN OPENGL MODE wins the competition. Otherwise, it is way behind it's competitor in terms of graphics quality.
You Trainz people, don't tell me you are not aware of that!
Let me present known facts once again:
I have a very powerfull system - i7-3.04 multicore processor / windows ultimate 64bit with 12 Gbyte RAM / GTX590 - 4Gbyte VRAM (the most powerfull nvidia card at the moment) with the latest driver, yet If I run TS12 in openGL mode all I get is a slideshow, or 'rubber bandage' or whatever else you may want to call very low FPS. I see no improvement, even if i move the quality sliders (INCLUDING THE TREE-DETAIL SLIDER) to the left.
So I ask Trainz people: Are you working on this? How close you are to solving this openGL very low and unacceptable performace issue?
Please, whatevet you do, do NOT compromise the graphics quality offered by openGL mode. It's simply superb, to the extend that rather than experiencing hi-performance directX TS12 driving, I prefer running TS12 in openGL even if I get only 4-8 FPS in that mode just to enjoy that never-seen-before-in-Trainz level of crispness, hi-res and quality! Unfortunately, the strain on my PC unter those conditions is such, that after a period of time the processors and memory simply cannot take it, get overheated and 'choked' ending up in frozen system, blue or black screens or reboots.
Please let me know about the matter,
With real love for Trainz,
manos

Why should the "Trainz people" put themselves to any trouble, when YOU can't even be bothered to register your copy of TS12, or even learn the name of the company who produce it ?

Also, why bring Railworks 3 into it ?
What has another company's product got to do with the problem you are having with TS12 ?
Have you ever considered that the problem is more likely to do with you not knowing how to configure your machine ?
I don't often see any other complaints about this, so it can't be N3Vs problem.

I thought that Nvidia cards worked better in Direct X. I never try Open GL as I always had one problem or another.

If any software causes overheating, rebooting, and complete system freezes, there's something seriously wrong with your hardware.

kind regards,

chris

Well you must have a faulty setup. I run TS12 in OpenGL on an older, slower and much less powerful Windows 7 Home Premium (32 bit) system than yours and it runs perfectly - no slide show at all.

All the replies -friendly or aggresive- will be given due consideration.
Still my questions have not been answered:
Does TS12 offer far supierior quality in openGL mode, yes or no?
Does TS12 in openGL mode runs at far lower FPS, yes or no?
Is this solely an individual's issue because of improper hard/software config/setup, or not?
Thanks again

Trainz is mostly hardware (CPU) dependent, although later versions do put more pressure on the graphics card.

It is advisable to make sure you have at least the recommended specifications if not better.

If you are using the Multiplayer aspect, a good Internet connection is a must.

P.S. It's Trainz 12, not Trainz 2012. This seems to be a common misconception by many users.

Just because the title put ''Railworks 3'' in it, I tought it would be the place to say:

By the 23rd of december, Steam made a 28 hours blowout sale on ''Railworks 3'' aka train simulator 2012....a 90% rebate (download version).

I tought it was worth the try ($4 for the complete game + the Horseshoe curve extension pack)..........but I was wrong....because IMO Trainz 2012 is way above that with the dls...surveyor tool......

Like shaneturner12, I gave a loud and long groan. I do this every time someone feels a need to bring up RW on Trainz. It comes up time after time after time. At the end of the day it is the same argument even if fancied up a bit. This worse than a Glaswegian (like me) being forced too live in Edinburgh! :(

No one trolls the other forums with spam about the other sims. Must be a Trainzer problem.

Sorry, if you don't like or like RW3, so what!

Harold

I agree, if you want go and talk about rw rw2 or rw3 go on the Railworks forum. This is about bloomin trainz not railworks.

............

If someone asks about the product, fair enough, give them information overload, BUT if someone has the product unregistered only give them help when it is.
Shane, do you ever sleep?

I wouldn't mess with him guys, he has the hands of FATE!

[SOLVED]

Come on Ghost42, don't blame Shane, he'a always been so kind and helpfull to us!
This time, - registered, although I intended to do so when I would start downloading at the DLS - I do not ask help, I've figured out a way out myself (though not for openGL):

I maxed out every quality setting in my GTX590 thru nvidia's panel (AntiAlising, Anisotropic Filtering, supersampling... everything) and now TS12 looks as good in directX as it does with openGL.
So I can now drive and enjoy all TS12 routes, even in surround mode - for me that means 6000x1200 pixels resolution across three montitors - huge vista! - at maximum Trainz 12 quality graphics settings, at no less than 50 - 70 FPS without the slightest stuttering even if there are a lot of trees and other complex objects close to the track.
(By the way, for those interested im multiple-monitor set-ups: You don't need to add the -dualhead or -surround switches in your 'trainzoptions.cfg'. Just set your desktop to the desired resolution before launching TS, and then select the same resolution from the launcher's options).

That's better FPS than I can get on TS2009 SP4!

To be honest though, if TS12 has efficient content installed, performance is good.

1 user cares, that's you :) OpenG wha.. o.0? RW Wha.. o.0?
Oh and hey, a system isn't worth boasting about unless its multi i7 CPU with around 30gb of ram
geddit?
Bye!

Dear Sir,
1. I simply stated facts. I never boasted about nothing.
2. Hardware is only usefull to a program to the extend that the program can take
advantage of it. Otherwise a 1000-core processor with 1000 Gbyte RAM is no better
than a Pentium 4 system with a fraction of that RAM from the point of view of the
software that runs on it.
3. I only mentioned RW because I needed something to compare Trainz to. If you don't
want me to mention the particular product, I can use for comparison an
openGL-based (owned by more than... 1 user) flight simulator called X-plane with
an ultra-high resolution photorealistic add-on scenery (with 2048x2048 textures etc)
installed called 'VFR-England'. Well, a system with the posted specs, yields at max
quality settings silky-smooth frame rates.
4. Last, I love Trainz at least as much as other members of the community if not more
than many and I have been using it since times when many people who claim
today to be Gurus on it, did not even know it existed.

With my best regards,
manos
