Trainz 2012 Quickdrive

I have just purchased 2012 and installed ok.
Having a fairly highend computer it looks very good and I run it with all settings max. One of the things that I bought it for was the kings Cross-Newcastle route.I wish to explore the whole route starting at Kings Cross.
When I go into Quickdrive there is one consist already available:-
'Route consist-BRMK1 BCK BLue9'.So I click on this and find that I am in Hull?
With consist but no engine! How do I add an engine to this? Also can I not begin at Kings Cross with my own choice of train? I do notice that there is a New Train choice but when I choose one how do I add it to Kiing Cross?
Sorry for the long post but all I want to do (to begin with) is to explore the route from the begining to the end.

From the trainZ 12 menu, open up routes, then the ECML, and click, create session. You are now in surveyor, an extremely powerful tool, and on the right side should be tabs, where you can add any train you have in your collection.
I Reccomend you read the manual,

Thank you both for your replies. I suppose that I am used to the Railworks free Roam system, where all routes have a choice of exploring the routes very easely. I managed to begin at Kingsx- but I must say that the very intensive graphics there caused my reasonable high end system problems.
No problems in that respect with Railworks!
But I have a lot of learning to do with Trainz, so I will plod on.
