Trainz 2010 vs. 12... Any significant difference in performance?

Hello all,

I recently installed Trainz 12 on a new system, and to my surprise, at times it seems only slightly better performance-wise than Trainz 2010 on my six year-old Vista machine. My new system has 8 GB of RAM, an AMD R9 270X GPU, FX8320 CPU, a 1 TB HD, and a 230 GB SSD. It seems to run pretty well for the most part, but still seems to stutter about as much as the 2010 version on my old system. I encountered some particularly heavy stuttering on the built-in transit railway route.

Does the 12 version usually give any better performance than the 10 version under the same conditions? It may be useful for me to mention I did not install 12 on the SSD, I'm not sure if doing so would have improved performance or not. I am considering removing the 10 install from my old system and moving it to this new one, though I'd really rather not, unless there is going to be a significant performance increase over the 12 version.

Thanks!

It doesn't stutter as bad as TS2010 especially with updated content. Older content, constructed with no LOD targets, and double-sided textures are still a big culprit in this, and so are too many Sketch-Up models due to the way they are constructed. Having said this if a route builder has jam packed every possible detail into a small space, then there still will be big pauses and stutters. This is due to the computer hardware and the program being unable to load and process all that data at once.

In addition you'll definitely see much better performance on your new system due to various reasons including the additional RAM which gets other computer processing out of the way of the SIM which will only work within the 4GB of a 32-bit application.

I have Trainz2012, but because it does not recognize many of the vehicles (transit types) on which I have devoted on Trains2010, I have not used. I would assume if downward compatibility was better, then I would move up. There two remedies, which I am not capable of solving. 1: Make the program accept previous versions of assets or 2: the Trainz programmers, provide a secondary and easy program to update the assets that no longer function in Trainz2012.

This is due to the models themselves having problems that prevent them from loading properly. I was able to get the MBTA LRVs and PCC Trolleys, as well as those from some foreign sites, running in TS12 without any issues. The problems were related to improper texture formatting and some missing textures. Once I figured out what was needed, I was able to repair the models.

Well. I for one have played TS10 for may years and I love it! When I played TS12, the routes had EXTREMELY bad framerates, it made me feel like the makers were a little.... I have no idea on how to say the developers acted like it was their first game in the politest way. The game was only good for exporting unreleased models and putting them into TS10, once the models in TS10, they were like forbidden fruit, it felt so **** good to have them in TS10. And honestly, for those who want some of the locos in TS12 for TS10, I strongly urge the makers of the unreleased content to put it on their website.
