Well, firstly it would be a wise idea to register your copy of 2010 through the link at the page above (under 'Serial Number'). This will show your copy of Trainz is legitimate and allow you to download patches and updates for it (you'll also get more help on this forum with your Trainz version registered).
Incidentally, from what I've read the automatic patch function in Trainz is broken and will not work, so you have to download and install each patch file separately, through a link found in the 'Auran Announcements' section of this forum.
When you install the patches, it can take a long time, to the point it looks like nothing is happening, but don't be fooled - the program is patching right. Just let it run on it's own for a couple of hours without interrupting it, and it will finish patching.
